PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Chilwell Fair: What an amazing night we had at the Chilwell Fair! The weather was perfect, the vibe was incredible and it was such a great community event. Meg is a great leader of our school and manages Chilwell Fair brilliantly, having great trust in all our parent volunteers and leaders. Thank you Meg for coordinating such a great school event. We sincerely thank all the volunteers for the event - stall holders, purchasers, set up crew, pack up crew and stall volunteers on the night. This is an impressive parent/carer effort and really demonstrates the strength of community spirit and partnership that we have here at Chilwell. We thank our staff volunteers as well, going above and beyond to maintain the calm during the day and to volunteer their time on a stall, to sing or to be dunked throughout the evening.

The students were buzzing (possibly due to the sugar overload) and it was pure fun. Well done to the Grade 6 students who volunteered their time at the fair with lollies and amusements, also to the students who performed brilliantly in ‘Chilwell’s Got Talent’. Thank you to our community for supporting this great event.

Please support all our sponsors who support our school and the Chilwell Fair so well. These sponsors were promoted throughout the night, are publicised on the school fence and are in this school newsletter. Please support those who support our students and school.

We look forward to sharing the final figure raised and how these funds will be used to continue to improve our school and the learning opportunities for our students and community. This will be shared in a future fair update when funds are finalised. Again, thank you…there is fatigue in many but the spirits and adrenaline is high. It was such an amazing night!

NAPLAN: Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 5 students for their approach and effort completing the NAPLAN assessments over the past fortnight. They were calm, measured and gave their best during these assessments which is all we can ask. This assessment period is now completed. We thank staff for their support during this time and our tech support, Michael, for his expertise.

Other great things happening around the school last week and this week…

- Curriculum Day: Yesterday our staff commenced their Berry Street Training, partnering with local schools Newtown PS, Ashby PS, Tate St PS and Manifold Heights PS. This was held offsite at the St Mary’s Sporting Club. We learnt about the importance and value of Morning Circles, Brain Breaks, Ready to Learn Scales (for check ins) and Ready to Learn Plans to support wellbeing needs to ensure great engagement and readiness fo learning. We have three more sessions to go and the staff are looking forward to strengthening their knowledge and expertise in this evidence based approach.

- School Leaders Conference: Tomorrow, our Grade 6 School Leaders and House Captains are heading to Melbourne on the train to attend the School Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This will be a valuable day to strengthen their leadership skills and capacity.

- Resilience Project Parent Online Session: Thank you to the parents who jumped online for the Resilience Project session last Thursday. This is such an important way to learn about the school approach to wellbeing and to strengthen the common language and home school partnership. Please look out for more great opportunities throughout the year and pop the dates straight in your diary so you don’t miss out. Thank you to wellbeing leaders, Steph Walsh and Deb Fisher for organising this event in collaboration with The Resilience Project leaders.

We look forward to another great fortnight ahead as we near the end of term. Ensure you check the calendar for some great end of term events.

Regards,

Sarah Jeffreys Assistant Principal
