2025 NAPLAN Program Update

Our Year 3 and Year 5 teams (along with our ICT technician) are busy preparing students for NAPLAN testing, which will take place during Weeks 6 and 7. While we don’t “teach to the test,” we are ensuring that students are comfortable with the online test format that ACARA uses.

Wednesday, 12th March 2025

 Year 3 – Writing (Paper) – 9:00 am (40 mins)

 Year 5 – Writing (Online) – 10:00 am (42 mins)

 Year 5 – Reading – 12:30 pm (50 mins)

All Writing and Reading assessments must be completed on this day.

NAPLAN Reporting

NAPLAN reports will be sent to the school during Term 3. Please note that the reporting system has changed. Instead of 10 bands, students will now receive one of four achievement descriptors:

• Exceeding

• Strong

• Developing

• Needs Additional Support

• Students with Strong or Exceeding ratings are meeting or exceeding grade-level standards.

• Those with Developing or Needs Additional Support indicate that further support is required in literacy and numeracy.

Many of these students are already identified in our NCCD database and are receiving tailored learning adjustments.

We are confident in our understanding of each student’s progress. However, if any individual report raises concerns, we will review additional assessment data (such as PAT testing and ongoing teacher assessments) to get a complete picture.

NAPLAN: One Indicator Among Many

Please remember, NAPLAN is just one measure of student achievement and the effectiveness of our teaching programs. It is not the sole indicator of your child’s learning progress.

How You Can Support Your Child at Home

Your role is invaluable. One of the best things you can do is foster a love of reading and a positive attitude toward learning. Encourage your child to read every day, even if only for a short period.

Here are some practical tips if your child is feeling anxious about NAPLAN:

Have a Positive Conversation:

• Ask your child what they’re worried about and listen carefully.

• Provide reassurance and positive guidance about the test.

Ensure Healthy Habits:

• Encourage a nutritious diet and plenty of sleep to boost physical and mental wellbeing.

• A well-rested, healthy child is better equipped to remain calm and confident.

Encourage Activity and Balance Screen Time:

• Regular physical activity and outdoor play can help reduce stress.

• Limiting excessive screen time may help improve focus and lower anxiety.

Celebrate Effort, Not Just Results:

• Emphasize that doing their best is what truly matters.

• Praise the hard work and dedication your child puts into their studies, regardless of the outcome.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making learning a positive and engaging experience for your child.
