Year 6 - GRIP

Leadership Conference

On Tuesday the Year 6 student leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference and experienced a range of workshops to build on their leadership skills. The workshops included: The Responsibilities of a Student Leader, Leadership through Friendship and New Ideas to Help Others.

The aim of the conference was to achieve an idea before the end of the year, using the tools and strategies the presenters shared. The presenters used humorous games and scenarios to engage the audience to model how to become an example to others, and that 'sharing responsibility is better than showing off responsibility.'

At the end of the conference, students were encouraged to share new ideas that support like-minded groups and ways to help others beyond the school community .

Please see some reflections from some of our Year 6 Student Leaders:

  • Lucy: Being able to go to the GRIP Leadership Conference was a one of a kind experience, learning the true meaning of being a leader. My favourite part of GRIP was meeting other schools and leaders, all the engaging activities and the very helpful learning material.

  • Tyler: Going to the GRIP Leadership Conference was a remarkable experience for the other captains and I. It really taught me how to be a leader and how to implement ideas by the end of the year. My favourite part was the 'Would you Rather' activity, which allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and converse with other school leaders.

  • Akira: My favourite part of the GRIP Leadership Conference was the 'Loud Noises' activities, because it gave me a chance to express myself and my emotions. What I also thought was really important was how the presenters engaged us through various examples on how to convey messages.

  • Hashane: I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have gone to the GRIP Leadership Conference, as it changed my perspective on how leaders should take responsibility for their communities.

  • Hannah: I enjoyed the GRIP Leadership Conference, because it gave everyone a say on new ideas that could help the community.
