Year 6 - Mathematics

Year 6 Students Dive into Decimals!
This term in Maths, our Year 6 students have been exploring decimals in a variety of engaging and hands-on ways!
One of the highlights has been the creation of their own Decimat games, where they challenged their classmates in a fun and strategic way to build their understanding of place value, tenths, hundredths and thousandths. The competitive spirit and mathematical thinking on display were fantastic!
Students also put their learning into action with some high-energy running races. They recorded their times to the nearest tenth, hundredth, and thousandth of a second, then worked together to order their results. This practical application helped them see the importance of accuracy and precision in real-world scenarios.
To consolidate their understanding, students created giant number lines in the classroom, carefully placing decimals in order from smallest to largest. This hands-on approach helped them visualise the relationships between decimal values and strengthened their number sense.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and teamwork in our Year 6 Math lessons this term.
Keep up the fantastic work, mathematicians! 🎉🔢
