Year 2 - Literacy

In Year 2, all students have been starting their days with phonics instruction using the Sound Waves Literacy program. They have been building their phonological awareness segmenting the individual sounds (phonemes) in words, as well as creating fun alliteration sentences and silly rhymes. They have also been playing lots of fun games, like charades, to build their confidence using the student sound charts so that they are able to use these independently when making spelling attempts in their writing.

In reading, Year 2s have been thinking beyond the text to make connections to their own life, other texts and the world. They have also started to use their prior knowledge and text clues to make inferences about the author’s intended meaning.

Students have been writing recounts to share their personal experiences. They have been building their understanding of sentences by noticing the elements of clauses, as well as creating noun groups with wonderful descriptive adjectives.
