Interior Constructions visit

Term 1 Week 7

Our Year 11 (Preliminary) Industrial Technology Timber class went to Interior Constructions last week for another cracking visit with proprietor Darren Cook. This is part of their Industry Study Task that contributes to Year 11 and Year 12 assessment.

This is the third year in a row Darren has given up his time for us to tour his business and learn all about the timber products and furniture industry, which is part of the syllabus requirements. I like to do it this way, instead of just reading about it and researching, as students can see first-hand how a modern joinery business operates, talk to experienced industry experts, and identify methods of mechanisation, automation, emerging technologies, personnel and training considerations, design and customer service obligations etc. etc.

Students were extremely amazed at the technologies being incorporated, from lean manufacturing principles and dual CNC machinery lines to holistic apprenticeship training models and paperless offices. They were given a full tour from showroom consultation to loading up for delivery and installation.

Many questions were asked, which Darren was more than willing to answer from his extensive experience, Mr Forbes-Taber and the students were very thankful for this wonderful ongoing partnership with Darren and his team.
