ARTS and STEM

A very proud congratulations and thank you to Lyla, Shaelee, Luka, Henry G, Darcy and Lyndon from Year 5/6, for their efforts to complete a wonderful painting for a Central Highlands Water display at the recent Ballarat Begonia Festival.

Our school was selected along with 23 other local primary schools and kindergartens to participate in this exhibition. Each school was allocated an Australian animal to paint, along with a prerequisite of including some representation of water. Our students worked hard at home to draw their illustrations of a galah and applied their painting skills with focus and diligence at school.

Comments from Begonia Festival attendees on our work were extremely positive and recognised the quality of the painting and artistry of our students.

We are looking forward to this artwork returning to school so that we can showcase it for everyone to enjoy.

Next week, Year 5/6 students will he heading to the National Gallery of Victoria to see the major retrospective exhibition of Yayoi Kusama. This extremely popular exhibition features paintings, sculptures, collages, drawings, installations and most excitingly, six experience rooms The work highlights this Japanese artist's fascination with dots, pumpkins and flowers.  This excursion has been made possible through the generosity of the NGV. The gallery is covering the costs for coach hire, entry fees, a workshop and lunches for staff and students.

I hope all the students enjoy this experience and that it inspires a further interest in creating art and learning about artists and their work.

This week in STEM, our new Prep students were introduced to Dash Robots. Thankfully, we were lucky to have some expert Year 3/4 teachers on hand to guide and have fun with when exploring how to drive, navigate and modify the functions of the Dashbots.
