Year 1/2 Learning Community
Growing our brains with Mrs Dallas, Mrs J, and Mrs Jacobs!
This fortnight, students in the 1/2 Learning Community have been working super hard at building their knowledge of partitioning two-digit numbers. This means we've been working on identifying which numbers we can break into 'parts' - tens and leftovers (ones). However, some students have absolutely aced this part of the learning, and have now moved into partitioning three-digit numbers! Students have been so proud of their learning and new knowledge and are beginning to see and recognise numbers everywhere in the world around us!
Â
Next time you see a two-digit number, have a chat with your child about how they would partition that number into tens and ones - they might just surprise you with their knowledge! ð
This term, students in the 1/2 Learning Community have been reading 'Ada Twist, Scientist' as their mentor text.
Â
We have been working hard on identifying statement, question, command and exclamation sentences and the correct punctuation to use for each.
Â
We have also been learning about independent clauses and the parts of speech that make up an independent clause - the who (noun) and the do (verb). Students were able to locate sentences from the mentor text that had an independent clause and identify the parts of speech within. If your child is in 1/2A, ask them what an independent clause is - the result is sometimes hilarious! ð
