Principal Message

Dear EMC Community,
As we approach the end of Term 1, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of our students, staff, and families in making this a successful and busy term. There is much to celebrate, as well as plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks.
We are extremely proud of our Year 7 and 9 students for their outstanding participation in NAPLAN. Their commitment to giving their best effort is commendable, and we appreciate the way they have tackled these important assessments. At EMC, we have high expectations for all our students, and we are delighted to see them rise to the challenge. The resilience, determination, and focus they have demonstrated reflect the strong learning culture we foster at our college. These assessments are not just about results; they are about growth, self-improvement, and striving to achieve personal bests. We encourage all students to continue working hard, setting ambitious goals, and taking pride in their learning achievements. Well done to everyone involved!
Our staff engaged in a highly productive Curriculum Day, launching a new pedagogical model to enhance how we plan and sequence curriculum units. The model is designed to ensure a structured, high-quality learning experience for all students. By implementing evidence-based strategies, our teachers are further strengthening their ability to engage students and maximise their learning outcomes. The day provided valuable professional development, collaboration, and reflection opportunities, reinforcing our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in teaching.
We are placing a strong focus on improving punctuality to school and classes. Missing the first few minutes of a lesson means missing essential instruction that sets the foundation for learning. Arriving on time ensures students start their day with a positive mindset, fully engaged and ready to learn new concepts. Consistent lateness not only disrupts individual learning but also affects the entire class. Developing good time management skills is a valuable life lesson that will benefit students beyond the classroom, in further education and their future careers. We ask parents and carers to support us by reinforcing the importance of being on time with their child. If there are any challenges preventing punctuality, please reach out to us. We are committed to working with families to identify solutions and provide any necessary support to ensure all students can maximise their learning opportunities.
We are incredibly proud of the 200 EMC students who have been training with dedication and determination for the 50km walk from St Kilda to Frankston as part of the iCan Challenge. This incredible event not only tests their physical endurance but also showcases their commitment to making a meaningful impact on the community. Their perseverance throughout the training sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays has been inspiring, as they have pushed themselves to new limits in preparation for the challenge ahead. Thanks to their collective efforts and the generous support of the community, they have already raised over $130,000 for the Good Friday Appeal, a remarkable achievement that will contribute to life-changing medical care for sick children. We commend their spirit, teamwork, and resilience in taking on this challenge, and we encourage everyone to get behind them. If you would like to support this fantastic cause, please consider donating here iCAN Challenge 2025. Every contribution makes a difference! We would also like to thank Driver Bus Lines, Coles Langwarrin and Bluegum for their generous donations and support.
There are a number of leadership opportunities at EMC, and we are proud to see so many of our students stepping up to make a difference. Our VCE Vocational Major students recently ran a fantastic event for Grade 1 and 2 students from Langwarrin Primary School. They organised a variety of inclusive games and activities, demonstrating outstanding leadership, teamwork, and initiative. This hands-on experience allowed them to develop their communication and event-planning skills while acting as positive role models for younger students. Well done to our VM students for representing EMC so professionally!
A huge thank you also goes to our Year 11 VET Sport and Rec students, who took on leadership roles at Langwarrin Primary School’s athletic days. They played a crucial part in organising students, running events, demonstrating activities, and providing instruction to younger participants. Their ability to manage groups, give clear directions, and encourage participation highlights the leadership skills they are developing through their studies at EMC. Our TAL students recently attended the GRIP Leadership Conference, where they gained valuable insights into leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. This experience will help them grow as student leaders at EMC, and we look forward to seeing them apply their new skills in future initiatives and projects within the school community.
Our students have excelled in various sporting competitions this term, displaying incredible dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork. EMC had the highest number of teams participating in interschool sports within our division, a testament to the strong sporting culture at our school. Engagement levels have been outstanding, with students committing to training, tryouts, and representing the college with pride. Additionally, participation in SEPEP at Years 7 and 8 has been fantastic. This program allows students to take ownership of their sporting experience by choosing the sport they are most interested in, fostering student agency, leadership, and teamwork. We encourage all students to continue their involvement, attend training sessions, and strive for personal and team success. Well done to all!
Soon our Year 10 students will be engaging in an exciting week of work experience, offering them a chance to explore potential career pathways and gain valuable real-world skills. We encourage students to embrace this opportunity to learn more about their future aspirations. Students from Langwarrin Primary and Woodlands Primary recently visited EMC for their Secondary School Experience Days. These visits provided a valuable introduction to secondary school life and showcased the fantastic opportunities available at our college.
We invite all prospective students and their families to our Open Night on the 25th March. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about our outstanding VCE and NAPLAN results, tour our extensive facilities, and meet our dedicated teachers and principal team. You’ll also learn about our specialist programs and the broad range of opportunities available at EMC. We look forward to seeing you there! We would also like to encourage our community to come together to help refresh our school grounds at our College Working Bee. Parents, students, and staff are invited to lend a hand, and to show our appreciation, we will be providing a sausage sizzle and refreshments for all volunteers. If you can assist, please register here: Sign Up.
Kind regards,
Jess Wade
