EX- STUDENT ALANA MURPHY (YEAR 6, 2017) IS A "MATILDA"
Alana Murphy started Prep at LPPS in 2010. From the beginning, both Mrs Peluso and I knew her motor skills were exceptional. Along with her brother Owen, she started playing soccer at a very early age. In Year 5, she was selected for the SSV Under 12's soccer team. Not surprising, she also made the team in Year 6, and was selected as co-captain. Team Vic won the National competition. The picture below shows Alana and her co-captain, with the winning trophy and their gold medals.
Alana won the Female Sports Award and as indicated on the award, her was to become a "Matilda".
ALANA'S SPORTS AWARD
As House Captain of McClelland, Alana has been a reliable, helpful and responsible leader who performed her duties efficiently and effectively. She has supported and encouraged the younger students during the lunchtime activities as well as the athletics at cross country events.
Alana has been a member of the school Athletics and Cross Country teams in Years 4, 5 and 6, having success at District, Divisional and Regional levels.
In athletics, Alana won the 12/13 Girls Triple Jump at the District and Divisional competitions and finished a creditable 10th at the Regional level. In addition she placed first in the hurdles and 1500m at District.
Aerobically, Alana is extremely fit and consequently she has experienced success in Cross Country. Winning the House competition the last 4 years, Alana has always finished either 1st or 2nd at the District level and top 5 at the Divisional level. She has always qualified for the Regional competition, but unfortunately injury and soccer commitments over the last two years have prevented her from competing.
In 2016, as a Year 5 student, Alana was an integral member of the successful Year 6 Girls Softball team. Winning the District, Divisional and Regional competitions, the team finished runners-up at the State finals.
Alana’s real passion is soccer. An extraordinary talent, over the last two years Alana has been a member of the U12 School Sport Victoria State Soccer team. A true leader in the sporting environment, this year Alana was named Captain of the team. An integral member of the team, Alana scored or assisted in a number of the team’s goals. As a result, the team finished joint National Champions with NSW; a wonderful achievement for Alana and her team members.
Alana loves her sport. Her passion for sport is extremely refreshing. Her face beams with a smile every time she has the opportunity to participate in a sporting activity. It has been a pleasure teaching Alana over the last three years. She has always participated enthusiastically and co-operatively in all sporting activities, demonstrating excellent skills, leadership and sportsmanship in both the PE and Sport programs.
It is evident from these results that Alana is a talented student across many sporting domains. Her sporting achievements during her time at Langwarrin Park Primary School are a result of her desire to succeed, genuine passion for sport, as well as her commitment to hard work and discipline. Alana should be extremely proud of all she has achieved over the last three years.
Alana’s goal – to become a “Matilda” and play soccer for Australia. I wish you every success for the future Alana.
Talent, hardwork, commitment, sacrifices and a very support family have enabled Alana to fufill her dream. Congratulations Alana, very well deserved. We are looking forward to watching you in the Green and Gold.
(And maybe, if Alana has enough time, cross fingers, she can come talk to us at an assembly.)
