BIKE ED

Grade 4 Bike Ed

In Term 1, the Grade 4s participated in the Bike Education program that over 4 weeks at school. The program taught and enhanced bike control skills, manoeuvring as a group and a single rider, navigating riding on different surfaces, and managing safety and hazards. The students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the rotations every Friday led by our incredible parent helpers.

On Friday 28th March, the Grade 4 students set out on a final River Ride to bring together all the skills and celebrate their learning in the program. We were treated to gloriously sunny weather for the entire morning, resulting in a very successful ride. After walking our bikes down Pako to the Barwon River track, we set off on our ride as a group of 43 students and 14 adults - quite a sight for all the local residents! We rode west all the way to Queens Bridge, before crossing the river and headed back along the other side. A stop in at Barwon Valley Fun Park Playground for a quick snack and play was definitely needed, before finishing our ride crossing the John M Macintyre Bridge, where some large carp were spotted down below! The students were excellent at communicating with one other about upcoming hazards and changes in terrain, persisting up some steep hills, cheering each other on, and being respectful and safe riders the entire ride. It was such an amazing way to finish the Bike Education Program together!

None of it would have been possible without the generous support of all our wonderful parent helpers. Another massive thank you to each and every one of you who assisted in the program and on the River Ride - it was an experience that now holds cherished memories for the students!

Please enjoy these photos from the program, including some Haiku poems written by the students reflecting on the River Ride!
