Library Update!
This term in the Library the Preps, Year 1s and Year 2s have been participating in Author Studies. In Prep we read The Diary of the Wombat series by Jackie French and voted on our favourite of 3 books. We just loved seeing what that cheeky wombat got up to! Wombat Goes to School was the stand out favourite!
In Year 1 we have been reading the Rainbow Fish series by Marcus Pfister and loved following Rainbow Fish on his adventures. We had some detailed discussions about our opinions of each story. Our overall favourite was Rainbow Fish Finds His Way!
In Year 2 we read Jessica’s Box, The Boy on the Page and The Last Tree in the City by Peter Carnavas. It was wonderful to hear the Year 2s make connections to show their understanding of each book’s theme. The Year 2s voted Boy on the Page as their most popular story by far!
Science
Week 8 has come around quickly.
It has been a blast in the Science Room. With the Labour Day public holiday, Grade 6s on camp and NAPLAN for the Year 3s and5s, the past couple of weeks have been busy and the usual science lessons were replaced insome instances by a focus on observation and looking for the things you might be missing.
We used the cleverness of magicians – knowing that there is often science behind the tricks they perform, to explore the idea of distraction. This fitted in well with the disrupted timetable and with the St Patrick’s day date of 17/3. We also investigated the difficulties of ever finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
It’s been wonderful to hear from students about the conversations and experiments that they are doing at home too. In celebration of last week’s Pi Day (March14th), I like to recommend a reading text and the folding activities in it: Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi, by Cindy Neuschwander.
Enjoy your week!

Grades 3 & 4:
The year 3/4 students have been putting their colour mixing skills into practice this week by making their Colour Wheel Lions. They are looking fantastic!
Grades 5 & 6:
The year 5 and 6 students have looked at how just three lines can create a simple landscape and why artists may choose simplicity over detail in their works. They also mixed up four colours in their chosen colour scheme to complete the artwork.

Foundation
This week in Prep Performing Arts, we continued building our repertoire of action songs, focusing on developing confidence and performance skills.
Students have made significant progress with our two end-of-term celebration songs, "Mr. Sun" and "Five Little Speckled Frogs," showing improved: ·
- Vocal projection and clarity: Students are singing louder and more clearly.·
- Rhythm and timing: Their ability to stay in time with the music has improved.·
- Stage presence and engagement: Students are demonstrating increased confidence and connection with the audience (or each other).·
- Action precision and synchronization: Their actions are more precise and synchronized with the songs.·
- Memory and recall: Students are remembering lyrics and actions more effectively.·
Cooperation and teamwork: Students are working well together to create a cohesive performance.
A great effort & dedication has been shown by young performers! I'm sure all the parents, extended family and caregivers will be very impressed with their performance on Wednesday.
Level 1&2
Your creative work on the "5 Fat Frogs" body percussion song was fantastic! I was particularly impressed by your inventive actions and the impressive collaboration between groups, seamlessly blending your individual ideas. Many of you have already delivered energetic and engaging performances, showcasing impressive musical talent. I'm eagerly anticipating the remaining performances – I have no doubt they'll be equally brilliant! Our audience participation has also been exemplary; the attentive listening and thoughtful, encouraging feedback have been wonderful to witness.
Performing Arts - Senior Year 3-6
The Grade 5 / 6’s have been busy for these past few weeks working on their music projects. It’s been amazing to see some students’ research skills and watching them put it all together for their presentation. It’s been wonderful to see such positive collaboration also amongst the students. In week 8, we have begun some presentations and I myself have already learnt so much about certain countries’ musical culture that I had not known before! All the students have enjoyed listening to music samples from different cultures as well.
Keep up the great work 5 / 6’s and by week 10, we should have everyone’s presentation complete!
The 3 / 4’s have been doing a fantastic job at completing their music compositions in their pairs. Week 7 and 8 has been for the performance in front of their class on their chosen percussion instruments and I’m pleased to say everyone has done a truly wonderful job. Lots of students were a bit nervous playing in front of their grade but everyone has been amazing! I’ve been very impressed with the music compositions the students have created. We will continue to do more rhythm work until the end of term.
