Careers and Pathways

Term 4 is here and well underway. Careers and Pathways has been working hard with our Year 12 students to finalise their 2025 applications and pathways. There’s also been some exciting careers events running this term for our Year 9, 10 and 11 students!

Year 9 Real Industry Job Interviews

All Year 9 students were given the opportunity to participate in the Real Industry Job Interview (Mock Interview) event on Thursday 14th November. In the weeks leading up students worked on their resumes and cover letters which they submitted for their RIJI.

Working closely with the Hume Whittlesea Local Learning and Employment Network, we were host to 19 incredible community volunteers from a wide variety of industries including Victoria Police, Headstart and Major Roads Projects to act as interviewers for the event.

Feedback from both students and volunteers were exceptional and gave students the opportunity to practice their interviewing and application skills in preparation for work experience next year and any part time job opportunities they may be interested in applying for.

Swinburne University Day Excursion

On Friday 8th November our Year 10 and 11 students were invited to attend an excursion to Swinburne University to introduce them to university life and explore their tertiary options. While all tertiary providers are unique, there are also many elements that they all share, allowing our students to not only get a feel for Swinburne, but tertiary institutions and education in general.

Students attended a presentation and campus tour before breaking off into workshops. Students were given the opportunity to pick between:

  • Design the Box (Creative Design)
The ‘Design the box’ challenge engages students’ creativity and collaborative skills to create the most attractive product and pitch it to their peers. Students were given industry tips and tricks to pour their ideas into something that can be sold or even change the world we live in! Students were given a short presentation by a university academic about current industry practices before working in groups to create a new product/packaging design.
  • Bionic Hand (Engineering)
Students explored medical engineering and its role in the design and creation of bionics. Students and academics discussed the basic concepts of how bionic limbs operate, students were then challenged to create their own prototype of a bionic hand that could successfully pick up a variety of sized objects.
  • The Thing From the Future (Business)
Awaken your imagination with a game that challenges players to describe and prototype objects from a range of alternative futures. Students put their unique perspectives to use, and their peers will vote for the most thought-provoking and fascinating ideas from the group.
  • Mock Trial (Law)
Students found themselves in the centre of a mock trial and experience the range of crucial and compelling roles to be found in the court room. Students worked together to create a real-life trial experience, drawing on previous cases and the guidance of academic staff.
  • AstroTour (Science)
AstroTours educate audiences about astronomy using innovative virtual reality technologies developed by Swinburne's Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing. This highly entertaining session included movies, animations and simulations — all produced by Swinburne’s in-house team of astronomers, visualisation researchers, animators, artists and programmers.
