Student Wellbeing and Engagement

Spring is a season of renewal, when the world seems to wake from its winter slumber. Spring carries a sense of hope and possibility, inviting us to shed the heaviness of winter and embrace the new beginnings it offers. Keeping with this theme, the Wellbeing Team has been busy preparing for new opportunities and renewing our programs in preparation for 2025 as well as running various initiatives with our current cohorts of students..

In September, we celebrated R U OK? Day and it was wonderful to see our SRC and school captains getting involved as ambassadors for the day. Term 4 has also gotten off to a flying start with a number of programs and wellbeing days taking place, including The Big Sister Experience and Year 9 Health Day.

Over a period of 5 weeks, some of our female students across Year 8 and 9 have been participating in a mentoring program called The Big Sister Experience. The Big Sister Experience has allowed for our girls to develop their confidence and relationships with others as well as provided a safe space to speak with mental health trained facilitators on topics such as peer pressure, body image and social media.

The Year 9 students also participated in a Health Day, which took place during week 7 of Term 4.  The students undertook two different programs throughout the day with the boys participating in workshops led by The Man Cave, whilst the girls participated in a series of workshops led by our Wellbeing Team.  The day was filled with conversation, laughter and positivity.

The Breakfast Club continues to be a roaring success, with many students filling up on toasties, fruit, cereal and flavoured milk every Tuesday and Thursday morning, before heading off for a day of learning. The Breakfast Club will finish up on the 12th December this year and will back in early Term 1 2025.

Planning for 2025 is full steam ahead, with many partnerships with external providers continuing. In particular, The Pat Cronin Foundation, Batyr, Respectful Relationships and ABCN. The Wellbeing Team is eager to continue supporting our students and providing positive mental health and support programs to benefit our school community.
