ADAM BLACKMORE

Adam.Blackmore@education.wa.edu.au

We can see from the changing plants and sounds of the animals around us that Djilba has now moved into Kambarang with a wide range of colours exploding everywhere from the banksias to the kangaroo paws.

It is also a time we are on the lookout for snakes as they awaken from hibernation to seek the warmth of the sun. A time also to watch out for the Koolbardie (magpies) as they protect their emerging young. It is a fitting time for the students who have finished their formal secondary schooling, and we look forward to the Graduation and Prize Ceremony on the 8th of November.

Perth Royal Show

You will have seen and heard about our wonderful results at the Perth Royal Show with the Merinos and the wethers. Some great work by Mr Adams and the team of students who committed their time to competing, thank you all. We have had AWI working with our trainers and students on shearing and wool-handling skills this week. They were again impressed with our student’s knowledge and commitment to developing their skills in shearing and wool classing.

Student Medical Issues

It is always better if we are aware of potential or actual injuries that students may have suffered when returning to the College on any given day, whether as a Boarder from a period of leave or as a Day student. We strive to provide students with appropriate care but need to be aware of any potential issues that may impact their involvement in the teaching and learning program, as well as residential staff being forewarned of any potential symptoms or required trips to medical facilities. Can you please let us know if there has been an incident or accident involving your child that may require further monitoring or follow-up?

Term 4

This term is always busy, with the conclusion of one year and the preparations for the next one occurring all at once. Transitioning new students, finalising projects, grades and reporting, cleaning dorms, cutting silage and hay and preparing for the coming hot weather are among the myriad of activities being completed in the coming weeks. It is wonderful to have such a diverse and cooperative team of people to ensure that all these activities are done in a timely and professional way while maintaining high standards throughout the school.

Reports

I sent out details of the updated reporting processes we will follow this semester. No negative feedback was received, so we will proceed with that guideline for this year and make any changes for 2025 in response to feedback at the end of the year.
