Music
On Thursday, 17th October, MGC were honoured to have internationally renowned music producer and composer, François Tétaz, as a guest speaker to talk to our Year 11 Music class and other interested music students about his experiences throughout his illustrious career. He enthusiastically delved into working with Gotye to produce the world famous, Grammy award winning single, “Somebody that I Used to Know”. We were lucky enough to have him show us an exclusive clip from an upcoming Nicolas Cage film that he had scored. It was fascinating to hear about the process of scoring music for film and experimenting with a variety of sounds to relay different expressive characters. The following are some quotes of the positive experience from students in Year 11 Music:
“Engaging.. made music production approachable” – Eli Rompano-Kelly
“Interesting hearing the story behind the work” – Indiana Lewis
“Exciting to see his computer files and sound engineering programs” – Shuzhong Wu
“Very interesting to see how all the elements of sound come together”- Scarlett Mulhall

Chookas to our Year 12 Music Students
We had our final Year 12 Music evening Thursday, 12th September. In the holidays students ran through their entire 20 minute program with their accompanists and we have had our Year 12 Music Lunchtime recital series every lunchtime this term for students to perform in front of an audience and prepare for their weekend performance exams, worth 50% of their overall mark.
We have already had our exams for our bass guitar, violin, viola, piano and saxophone students and our vocal students will complete their performance exam this weekend. A huge thank you to our instrumental teachers and mentors and our accompanists, Katrina Halliday, Andy Clarke and Hayden Dun for all their support and work.
