Resilience and bouncing back – with Riverina BlueBell and Jackson “Jacko” Strong

Last Thursday 24th October, all of Year 9 attended the Wagga RSL Club for Riverina Bluebell’s Mental Health Event.

Riverina Bluebell is a small, charitable organisation consisting of volunteers who have an interest in mental health. Their vision is 'Saving Lives Through Conversations', with their main objectives being to promote the enhancement of mental health and wellbeing in the Riverina.

Students from across multiple high schools in the Riverina heard from two speakers about resilience and taking the stigma out of mental health. The first was from a group called Magical Learning, who aim to equip people with the skills to excel as leaders, irrespective of the challenges they face.

Next, we heard from Jackson “Jacko” Strong, the fearless motocross champion who many will know for his daredevil riding stunts with the Crusty Demons.  He comes from Lockhart and has a very relevant and interesting story to tell.

We also heard from a Headspace clinician, talking about the services they provide, and how to refer.

There was a short question and answer session at the end where students could ask questions of the presenters more informally. It was great to see students from the College be brave and raise their hands in the air in front of a large group of peers.
