Science

Year 5/6

Students continued their learning journey about fermentation and the ideal conditions required for fermentation to be successful. Over a 2 week period students experimented with different additions to a strawberry, sugar and water solution. Students had 4 test containers with the following additions, lemon juice, vinegar, salt (or baking soda) and additional yeast. Students then compared the appearance, odour, pH and sugar content. It was determined that the solutions containing lemon juice and vinegar were the most viable and consumable.

Pond update

The heavy work of excavation, rock placement and construction of the pond has been completed. We are so grateful for the work of Liam and Mac from Earthcore Landscapes and parent helpers (Emma, Jordy, Rick and Sam) who have helped out with this project. Next up is the planting out and mulching of the area to really establish the habitat and encourage some frogs to move in. There have been many questions about which frogs we are getting. The simple answer is we just don’t know…we have built it, and now we hope they will come.
