Health and Physical Education

Ms Kieren Waugh, Middle Leader HPE

It has been a jam-packed term for our Health and Physical Education students!

The Year 7 students are learning about safety and lifelong fitness. One group of Year 7s is participating in netball and demonstrating incredible leadership by running their own warm-up and activities during the sessions. This week, the mini coaches ran a session to choose which player would be the shooter for their team. I am really impressed with the high level of leadership being demonstrated in this cohort!

The Year 9 students have had some incredible opportunities this term as well. Ms Petersen’s class has been hitting up the court, with her Year 9 students partaking in tennis at Mareeba Tennis Club. Mrs Waugh’s Year 9 class have been providing coaching lessons to each other to improve their bowling and batting skills in cricket. Mrs Tahir and Mr O’Neill’s Year 9 class have started training their body and mind participating in Taekwondo lessons.

Year 10 students have been learning how to modify rules and equipment and design activity sessions aimed at promoting physical activity in teenagers. They have just begun planning out their sessions which will be presented to their classes in the coming weeks.

The Year 11 Sport and Recreation students spent the day at Davies Creek last week. During their excursion, they put their compass skills to the test and had the opportunity to explore the area on mountain bikes. A huge thank you to Mr O’Neill and Mr Polley for taking students on this adventure.

We have many more experiences planned for next year! I can’t wait to share them with you all.
