Vinnies Christmas Appeal

As the weather has changed, I know I am not alone in getting the feeling that Christmas is right around the corner. The heat is a sign of festivities-to-come for anyone living in North Queensland. I am blessed in my life to be able to look forward to the Christmas period, knowing that it brings time for family and joyful celebrations.

This is not the case for all in our community. Many people experience isolation around this time of year or stress at the expense that the pressure of celebration brings. One way that we have been working to alleviate some of this is by contributing to the Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal. Each year in Term 4, St Stephen’s seeks out donations of non-perishable food and Christmas items to put together hampers for those local families doing it tough.

Students have already been bringing in items and they are starting to pile up under the tree. Thank you to all our families who have contributed so far! It is heartwarming to see the generosity and compassion of our young people.

We will be accepting donations right up until the last day of school, so if you are able to, please consider contributing to this appeal. Students can bring in donations into Home Form each morning.

Rosies – Seeking a Mareeba Branch Manager

Rosies - Friends on the Street has been a part of the Mareeba community for many years, thanks to its dedicated volunteers. They provide a friendly ear to those experiencing homelessness and are currently seeking a Branch Manager in Mareeba. If you know of someone who may be willing to fulfill this role, please share the flyer below and encourage them to get in contact with the Volunteer and Outreach Manager, Nicole Leman at lemann@rosies.org.au.

Jubilee of Youth Pilgrimage to Italy

There will be a Jubilee of Youth Pilgrimage that will be offered to all students in Years 9-12 across the Cairns Diocese in 2025. The pilgrimage will be led by our new Bishop Joe and coordinated through the schools. We are hope-filled that we might be able to bring together a pilgrimage group of 30-35 students, staff and clergy. Information can be found on the flyer below, those interested should register as soon as possible at the link in the flyer.
