Religious Education

Mrs Laura Gilbert, Middle Leader Religious Education

This term, Year 11 Study of Religion students took part in a memorable excursion to the Mareeba Mosque as part of their study of calendrical rituals. Guided by former Imam Ibrahim Newman, students gained first hand insights into the significance of Islamic prayer practices and rituals, especially those linked to the Islamic lunar calendar. Engaging in discussions about these rituals enriched students’ understanding of the spiritual rhythm of Islamic life.

Our Year 12 Study of Religion students also celebrated their final year with a special morning tea, featuring food clues directly tied to key concepts from their external exam topics. From cyclical worldview pinwheels to symbolic fruit platters, each item cleverly represented themes and teachings they had studied which related to their external exam.

I am incredibly proud of these Year 12s and their outstanding results this year. I also wish them every success in their exams and future endeavours, confident they will carry forward the respect, empathy, and curiosity fostered in their religious studies.
