Year 9 Maths Camp
Late last term, Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre Barron River Campus, was inundated with 50 mathematics students from across the Tablelands and Cairns areas, including 10 students from St Stephen's, for the annual Year 9 Maths Camp.
The camp challenged the students both mathematically (with sessions including String Theory and Binary Code), and physically/mentally (with activities including high ropes and kayaking).
The students also had the opportunity to hear from guest presenters including Dr Carole Wright who is a senior biometrician at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Carolyn Diedricks who is a maths lecturer at JCU Cairns. The guest presenters inspired the students, sharing some of the opportunities that are available if they continue to achieve in maths subjects in senior and beyond.
