Year 12 VM Psychology Students Put Their Senses to the Test!
On Tuesday 26th August, our Year 12 Vocational Major Psychology students stepped outside the classroom and into a world of sensory adventure with an excursion to Sensas in South Yarra. This unique program gave students the opportunity to apply their psychology knowledge in a hands-on and highly interactive way.
Throughout the day, students worked together to complete a series of challenges that tested their teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. Each challenge focused on one of the five senses, with activities designed to stretch their thinking and creativity.
Highlights of the day included:
- Sight – navigating a tricky laser obstacle course and tackling challenges that distorted their vision.
- Smell – identifying a variety of unusual scents.
- Hearing – finding creative ways to communicate without relying on speech.
- Touch – using only their hands to identify hidden mystery objects.
Every solved puzzle earned tokens, which were later converted into a donation to support people with disabilities—a fantastic way for students to see how teamwork and effort can have a positive real-world impact.
The excursion was an incredible opportunity for students to bring psychology to life, build connections, and experience learning in a fun and meaningful way.
Year 11 VM Students Get a Taste of Business at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie!
On Monday 19th August, our Year 11 Vocational Major students swapped the classroom for the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery—an excursion that was as educational as it was delicious!
The visit gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how a thriving local business connects with its community, operates sustainably, and continues to grow while meeting Australian OH&S standards. From the early stages of establishing the business to its day-to-day running, students discovered the many ingredients that go into building success.
As part of a guided tour, students learned how chocolate and ice cream are made on-site, while also exploring the customer experience side of the business through the café and retail store. The focus on sustainability was clear, with much of the production process designed to minimise waste and source responsibly.
The sweetest part of the day? Students got hands-on with their learning—using their applied skills to create and decorate their very own chocolates before enjoying a taste of the Chocolaterie’s famous ice cream.
The excursion was the perfect blend of business education, applied learning, and a little bit of indulgence. A big thank you to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie team for hosting such an engaging and unforgettable day!

VET Music Performance - Excursion
On Monday 11th August, the Year 11 VET Music Performance class embarked on an inspiring excursion to Marshall St Studios in Bundoora.
Students began their visit with a guided tour of the facilities, exploring the tracking room and production suites. They gained an inside look at how instruments are recorded, how spaces are acoustically treated, and the step-by-step process of capturing live performances.
The day’s main focus was recording the class’s cover of Ed Sheeran’s Dive. Instrumentalists laid down their tracks in the morning, followed by vocalists in the afternoon, each student contributing their part to the final arrangement.
In the latter half of the day, the group was treated to a live mixing session with industry professional Stu Watts, who walked them through the art and science of mixing and mastering. He shared valuable insights into the creative and technical choices that shape a polished, professional sound.
When not in the studio, students made the most of their downtime — playing pool and table tennis, relaxing with Netflix, snapping shots in the professional photo studio, and soaking up the sunny atmosphere.
We are thrilled to share the final mixed version of the song the students recorded during the excursion — a testament to their talent, teamwork, and the incredible support of the Marshall St Studios team.
