Book Week Dress Up Day is on Monday 25 August – a reminder that this coincides with our Week 6 Assembly. The dress up parade will take part within our assembly so please come to the Black Box for a 9:05am start.

RUOK Day is also coming up on September 11 – students are invited to wear a touch of yellow on this day with their school uniform, should they choose to. T-shirt, socks, hair ribbon, wrist band etc.

Kara is on long service leave from Friday 22 August. For urgent teaching and learning concerns please contact Cherie. For all other queries please begin with your child’s pastoral group teacher and they can direct you to the appropriate support person.

Learning Conversations - Bookings Now Open

Bookings for Learning Conversations are now open. Learning conversations will take place in Week 9 on Tuesday 16 September from 3:30-4:30pm and on Wednesday 17 September from 3:30-7pm. Book in for your student’s Learning Conversation via PAM.

Congratulations students!

A big shout-out to the amazing Primary Students who recently demonstrated one of our college values – respect everyone and everything.

These students asked a teacher how they could help out. The teacher suggested picking up rubbish, and they happily got to work and made our College grounds look great.

A huge congratulations and thank you for showing pride in our school and setting a wonderful example for everyone. Your actions make a big difference!

Class Reports

Foundation

This week Foundation students have been busy working on their tricky words and learning about diagraphs. Students have been practising reading words with diagraphs and putting them in sentences in their writing.

We read the picture story book ‘Magic Beach’ and discussed new vocabulary from the story. We created water colour artworks of a magic beach.

In RE, Foundation students have been exploring the Bible and the stories that are in it. Students learnt about the Old Testament and the New Testament and have engaged in different stories and responded to them. We listened to the Parable of the Mustard seed, and reflected on the message of the story through water colour painting.

Year 1

As part of our morning prayer, the Year 1 students listened to the song Our Home by Andrew Chin. They reflected on God’s creation by exploring ideas of Australian bushland and animals.

The children began with careful sketching, thinking about lines and shapes, before completing their final artworks using watercolours. The finished pieces beautifully show their ideas of “home” and God’s world.

Year 2

Religious Education:

We have started our next Religious Education topic, Let’s Care for Creation. This unit invites students to wonder about creation and develop an appreciation for how we can care for it.

In the first lesson, the children identified who they care for and discussed the importance of caring.

Literacy:

We have continued developing comprehension skills, focusing on predicting, connecting, visualising, inferring, and asking questions.

There has been some rich discussion about the storybook, Collecting Colour by Kylie Dunstan.

In writing, the children have studied the structure of a narrative and have begun drafting opening sentences. The expectation was to include the features of when, who, what, and how. This has resulted in some interesting and engaging sentences that capture the audience’s attention.

Maths:

We have been learning to add and subtract two-digit numbers, using regrouping strategies with concrete materials.

Inquiry:

In the final lesson of How We Organise Ourselves, the children identified an organisation they know about and role-played what the organisation does, as well as the roles of people within it.

Year 3/4

Mathematics:

We have been learning about angles and how to name them. Children have explored how angles can be found in nature and everyday life. We have now begun our next unit on time, extending our skills to tell the time using quarter past and quarter to.

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have been exploring Australian poets, focusing on the works of C.J. Dennis and Banjo Paterson. Children analysed their poetry styles and used these skills to create and share their own original poems.

Inquiry:

This term we have been learning about Sharing the Planet. Students discovered that living and non-living things in an ecosystem are interconnected and impact one another. They have started to share their knowledge by creating posters, and next week they will begin constructing dioramas. If you have any spare boxes at home, we would love if you could send them in.

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, we have been exploring Jesus’ Parables. Children retold the stories by drawing, writing, and completing a storyboard. They then investigated the meaning of the parables through Godly Play, reflecting on what the message might mean for their own lives.

Year 5

We began our new inquiry this fortnight. Beginning with some mapping and timelines. It has been interesting to see where many people have migrated from to end up in Australia. As well as identifying reasons that so many made the big journey. Convicts, those chasing gold, outcasts and children.

Character strengths and knowing what our personal traits are can help us be our best and help others in their times of need. We celebrate what makes us unique and the impact that we can have on others. Our RRRR’s topic ‘Personal and Cultural Strengths’ continues to support our wellbeing and interpersonal skills.

Decimals is back! We are becoming great at sitting in the uncomfortable  while we process our maths. In time lightbulbs go off as we understand and learn new things. This terms decimals focus’ on rounding to the nearest tenth, ordering decimals to the nearest thousandth and expanding decimals that include whole numbers.

Last week we spent some time with 1SS doing STEAM. It was fun to collaborate together on the LEGO kits.

Kara is on LSL leave now until the end of term. Please direct any urgent queries to Bek, wellbeing concerns to the Wellbeing Team or anything non-urgent to Kara and Bek to be replied in due time. We appreciate your patience if replies are not instant.

Year 6

Kensington Gardens Visit

Year 6 students have spent time over recent weeks attending Kensington Gardens to participate in activities with residents.

From croquet to craft, the Year 6 students have seamlessly joined in the fun at the retirement village.

Both students and residents have thoroughly enjoyed the intergenerational connection, experiencing a sense of joy and energy.

Division Tee Ball

Our Year 6 Tee Ball team travelled to the Benalla Showgrounds on Friday to compete in the Division Tee Ball event, and what an awesome achievement it was!

With perfect weather, fantastic teamwork, and plenty of smiles, the day was filled with great sportsmanship and unforgettable moments. We’re so proud of our team for giving it their all and representing our school with pride.

A Day in the Life of a Year 7 Student

The end of the year is fast approaching which means it’s the perfect time to give our Year 6 students the chance to get a taste of what Year 7 at St Anne’s College is all about!

The students spent an afternoon yesterday taking part in sessions ran by our amazing Secondary teaching and LSO staff. A beautiful smell of bickies filled the air as a group of students spent time perfecting Meredith’s recipe. While another group were taken under Tyler’s wing to participate in P.E which included a very fun and competitive game of dodgeball. A few days later students participated in sessions of English, Maths, Humanities and Science, with our fabulous secondary staff. In English they discussed and learnt about genres, in Maths they studied angles, Humanities they worked on Geography together and Science they looked for water fleas under the microscopes. We are sure our Year 6 students can’t wait for next year now!

Year 5/6 Hockey 7's - State Finalists!

A huge congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 students who participated in the Hockey Round Robin competition at Brauman St in Shepparton today!

The team's incredible efforts have resulted in them making it to the next level - the State Hockey Primary Boys/Mixed State Finals on Thursday September 11.

Students played five games which consisted of 10-minute halves having wonderful success to come away with five wins! The scores were 1-0, 2-0, 2-0, 6-0, 3-1. Our leading goal scorer was Navi, with Bharpur, Sahaj, Kehar and Pragunn all getting scores on the board.

We are so proud of how the students represented St Anne's College, showed fantastic sportsmanship, collaboration and respect to each other, their opponents and referees. Well done Bharpur, Charlotte, Eleina, Heli, Japji, Kehar, Navi, Pragunn, Sahaj and Smile on a great effort!

Reminders:

Parents/carers are reminded there is a very important process to follow if your student must leave the college at any time throughout school hours. Please ensure you follow these steps:

Parents/carers MUST provide a note to the front office, at the start of the school day, stating the following:

- Student Name

- Date of leave required

- The time the student must present to reception to take their leave

- If they will return to the college the same day, and if so what time they will return

- The reason for the leave being requested

- The parent/carer’s name and signature

Please note, students will only be permitted to be collected by their parent/carer unexpectedly and without a note if it is an emergency.

We remind all that the college opens at 8:30am. This enables educators time to prepare for their day ahead. We appreciate your support in helping our educators be successful. Yard duty staff begin at 8:30am to monitor play spaces before the school day begins at 8:55am.
