Routines
Teaching routines is a vital part of implementing Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) because it sets clear expectations for students and creates a safe, supportive, and predictable learning environment. Routines help students understand what expected behaviour looks like in different school settings, such as classrooms, hallways, the playground, or assemblies.
By explicitly teaching and consistently practising these routines, we can ensure that all students know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. This reduces confusion, prevents misbehaviour, and allows more time to be spent on learning.
We have been focusing on the importance of lining up in a predictable line order, to move safely around the school at all times. These posters allow students to understand the expectation as well as inforcing our PBL values; Respect, Safe, Learn.
Social Story
The students have been focusing on learning the value of Safe: I follow adult instructions. In classrooms the students have been learning about how we can safe by stopping, listenting, and responding to an adult giving instructions. While this focus is mainly about safety, the students are learning that this expectation shows respect and allows all to learn. We encourage students to review this learning at home.
