The Value of Kindness

From a wellbeing perspective, kindness plays a powerful role in helping our students feel safe, connected, and valued. When children give and receive kindness, it strengthens friendships, builds confidence, and supports positive mental health. Simple acts like including others in play, offering a helping hand, or using gentle words not only brighten someone’s day but also nurture a strong sense of belonging within our school community. By practising kindness each day, we help our children grow in resilience, empathy, and joy.

AT HOME:

You can support your child and encourage the value of kindness by modelling it in everyday interactions:

  • Using respectful language, showing gratitude, and treating others with care.
  • Family conversations about kindness, such as asking children to share one kind act they gave or received during the day, help reinforce its importance.
  • Reading books or watching stories together that highlight empathy and compassion can also spark meaningful discussions.
  • Parents can encourage children to notice opportunities to help—whether it’s setting the table, caring for a sibling, or writing a kind note.
  • Celebrating and praising these small acts shows children that kindness matters and makes a difference in the lives of others.
