Physical Education

Well, it’s been quite the sporty couple of weeks for our school. During the two glorious weeks of the Paris Games, we played a range of games and sports ranging from athletics to volleyball to sitting volleyball, a brilliant sport played during the Paralympics. Now that the post-Olympic blues have almost faded, we have moved on and will start to focus and hone our skills on specific sports.

The Preps have started their gymnastics sessions and it’s been an absolute hit! They have shown an impressive amount of talent in a range of apparatus including the beam, vault (definitely a favourite) and the floor. Learning these skills is so important for their co-ordination, flexibility, strength and balance.

The 1/2s will be moving into the wonderful and growing sport of Pickle Ball, played on a smaller sized tennis court with a plastic ball and hard bats. This game is so much fun and will help the students with their hand-eye coordination and agility.

The 3/4s will be getting stuck into basketball, always a popular sport with so many students. Now that the weather is improving (well, sort of) we can head out to the big court and start to play full games and have some 3 on 3 tournaments.

The 5/6s will have a focus on tag games played on the oval with a range of balls and differing rules. This week, we played a hybrid tag game combining Ultimate Frisbee and Gaelic Football.. we had a great time! (I pulled up a bit sore, I must say) We’re halfway through our Puberty sessions which have been awesome. The students have shown a high level of maturity and interest during these sessions, we’ve had a few laughs and learnt so much at the same time. Naturally, puberty education can be awkward and tricky for some students but I really have to say how proud I’ve been of all students and I’m looking forward to the next three weeks.

On Monday, we had the District Athletics in Bendigo and as always, this was such a successful and fun (and very long) day. All students who competed did so with respect, grit and a real sense of fun, I couldn’t have asked for more. We’ve got a handful of competitors moving on to the Division Athletics coming up, we wish them the very best.

Have a great few weeks, enjoy the intermittent sunshine and if you get the chance, get out there with your kids and get active!!

The Boys Volleyball team took part in the Division Volleyball Championships on Thursday at Red Energy Stadium in Bendigo. The team put on an impressive display to move through to the Regional comp next month in Swan Hill. The weeks of training with Mr Lewis really showed in their four-game winning streak, beating Kennington 36-26 in the Grand Final. Congratulations & good luck to Thomas, Clancy, Flynn, Hudson, Chylle, Zayne, Finley, Max and Ezra!
