Bundoora Park Farm
Excursion to Bundoora Park Farm
On Friday the 19th of July the grade one’s rugged up and braved the cold weather to attend their excursion to the Heritage Village at Bundoora Park Farm. Despite the weather, there were smiles all round as the students learnt about life in the past and participated in old fashioned games such as gumboot and horseshoe throwing. The students were engaged and attentive whilst learning about how people lived without luxuries such as plumbing, electricity and hot water and how certain jobs were completed by adults and children. They giggled while learning about school in the olden days and the punishments such as wearing the dunce’s hat or even tying one hand behind students backs just for being left-handed! It was amazing to take the bus back further in time before the land was farmed and we were suddenly surrounded by kangaroos and a particularly young and curious Emu who came up close to inspect one of the tours.
The students returned to the warm bus at the end of the day and headed back to school with their new knowledge and excitement ready to further explore their unit of inquiry “Where We Are in Place and Time.’
