Learning News
Welcome back to Term 3. We have a very busy and exciting term planned, jam packed with learning opportunities across our Key Learning Areas. It has been wonderful to see so many parents and carers meeting with the teachers to celebrate the learning of their children from the past semester during the parent teacher meetings that are currently being held. If you haven’t booked an appointment to see your child’s teacher, please do so.
This term Year 6 will begin their long awaited visits to Manellae Lodge to join in with the residents in their activity of the day, previously postponed due to COVID and influenza outbreaks. This will complement our Religion and PDHPE programs as well as allow the students to make valuable friendships with community members. The primary students have also commenced practising the musical which will be presented to the wider community towards the end of the term, so watch this space.
Infants have been busy in their classrooms already and are looking forward to a visit from the Responsible Pets Program in the upcoming weeks.
We look forward to welcoming you at school this term at some of the many exciting events the school is holding.
Yours in learning,
Cathy Shepherd
Kindergarten
Kindergarten have made an impressive start to term 3 and are back into the swing of learning! They have all been eager to show off their learning skills in Reading, Writing and Spelling. This week, we have had a fabulous time reading and responding to the storybook, Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan. Kindergarten were excited to make their own stews using ‘ingredients’ from the school yard. We then used these materials to create our own wombat stew craft. The children attempted to independently spell the ‘ingredients’ for their stew on a recipe scaffold. Great Job Kinder- Miss Fraser.
Year 1
This term we welcome Prac Student Mrs Irwin who is completing her first teaching prac. Mrs Irwin is with us from Week 1 to Week 4. We hope you have a lovely time with Year 1!
This week, Year 1 has been learning how to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s. They have used a number chart to identify and continue number patterns. Year 1 has been completing number puzzles to become familiar with the number chart, including backwards number charts. They have made a poster using their hands to show counting by five using their fingers. Awesome work Year 1! Mrs Irwin and Miss Myers.

Year 2
Is the Big Bad Wolf really bad or was he framed? You’ve all heard the story of the Three Little Pigs, but have you thought about the story from the Wolf’s perspective? In writing, Year 2 have been learning to understand how arguments can be presented from different perspectives. As a class, we looked at the story of the Three Little Pigs from both the Pigs’ and the Wolf’s perspective. We thought of points from both sides of the story, then had to decide which one we believed was true. We then had to write a paragraph to prove our argument using a topic sentence, supporting sentences and a concluding sentence. Great arguments Year 2! Well done! - Miss Rasche
Year 3/4
During Visual Arts, Year 3/4 have been learning about abstract artwork and how the artwork doesn’t always depict what something looks like. Students learned about the importance of lines, shape and form to sketch self-portraits of themselves. They then added colour to their self-portraits using oil pastels. Excellent efforts this week Year 3/4! - Miss Maunder
Year 5
To start our learning this Term, Year 5 have been focusing on artworks that link to our overall theme of natural disasters. This week we learnt that a Seismograph is a tool used to measure and record the seismic waves made by an earthquake. In this artwork the students had to create the lines of their seismograph graph using oil pastels. We then coloured with watercolour paints to create some truly fantastic artworks. Excellent work Year 5- Mr Beaumont
Year 6
This term in Geography, Year 6 is learning about bushfires. To begin the unit, students watched a video about the ‘Black Saturday Fires’ and heard stories from a variety of people affected, about their experiences. We learned about ‘empathy’ and thinking about how someone else is feeling, even when you aren't in the same situation. Students created an ‘empathy map’, considering what people said, did, thought and felt at the time. Incredible work Year 6! - Miss Summerell
