Forest School

It’s been a VERY variable couple of weeks weather-wise in Forest School this term. We’ve endured high winds and sideways rain and THICK FROST! Today we’re enjoying a crystal clear and stunning sunny day.

The Foundation children have had a fantastic time hunting for mini beasts (insects) in line with their Inquiry research this term. We’ve started to learn how to categorise living things and made some very interesting observations and predictions about insect life cycles and habitats.

Grades one and two students are exploring ‘Simple Machines’ in Inquiry and we had a brilliant time creating simple see-saws out of planks and logs. We talked a LOT about safety and how to avoid hurting ourselves and others. As always, it’s brilliant to observe your amazing children reminding each other of the safe parameters around play activities in the Forest School program and loads of learning happens.

Senior students focused on contrasting and comparing the ways that we use the land in 2024, compared with Indigenous land-use practices before British colonisation of Australia. We came to the conclusion that there are a surprising number of similarities.
