Girls AFL Division Finals

This week, our Girl's AFL team competed in the division finals at Bonbeach Football Reserve, and we're thrilled to share their success. Under the coaching of Mr. Klvac, the girls played exceptionally well, securing victories in their first three games against St Patrick's, Aspendale, and St Louis. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they finished 4th overall on the day. Mr. Klvac praised their efforts and teamwork, making us all incredibly proud of their achievements. Well done, team!

Level 4 - 6 House Athletics

On Tuesday, we held our Level 4-6 House Athletics Carnival at the Sandringham Athletics track, and it was a fantastic day. The weather was sunny, and it was wonderful to see everyone dressed in their house colours. Many students experienced great success in their events, demonstrating their skills and effort. We even saw some impressive running skills from the teachers in our Staff vs. Students 100-meter dash! A huge thank you to our many parent helpers and staff, whose support made the day a huge success. Congratulations to Waratah for being the overall winners of the day!

Health and Physical Education

In our F-2 PE lessons, we've been focusing on jumping, landing correctly, and hopping. Students practised these skills at various stations, improving their techniques in a fun way. We began each session with a big stretch and had insightful discussions about how our muscles are like elastic bands, highlighting the importance of flexibility and strength. The students have been enthusiastic and are making great progress!

In our 3-6 PE lessons, we’ve started our striking and fielding unit with a focus on two-handed side-arm strikes. Students connected their knowledge of over-arm techniques to understand the similarities in movement. They practised their striking skills while providing and receiving peer feedback, using the “sandwich” approach to make the process enjoyable and effective. The lessons ended with some small-sided games of modified tee ball, where students could put their new skills into action. The students are engaged and making great strides in their striking techniques!

Mandarin

Congratulations to our Foundation students on their 100 days of school! They have made tremendous progress in both school and Mandarin.

Last term, we explored the theme of nature. This term, we have built on that by introducing "I have" as a sentence starter. Our students have excelled, not only being able to say sentences like "I have a big tree" or "I have a little flower" but also writing some of these sentences in Chinese characters!

They should be proud of their achievement, and we are excited to continue watching them grow in their Mandarin learning journey.

I have a big sun.
I have a big house.
I have a little flower
I have a big butterfly.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts has launched into semester 2 with our usual gusto, but looking in on the level 3 classes this week, you would be forgiven for thinking that performance had given way to sculpture. The more eagle eyed among you might note however that these marvels of form and function are not sculpted from bronze or marble, but from the bodies of performers. Here we see them depicting classical fountains in the heroic mode, presented as living tableau in all their frozen glory.

Excelsior!

Visual Arts

The first weeks of term 3 in the art room have seen the students complete a whole school project for our upcoming Art Show and begin work on some collage pieces.

Collage is an extremely important skill as it hones cutting skills, develops an eye for composition and allows for a lot of creativity.

So far within our collage works we have looked at Kandinsky as an inspiration for the younger grades. The Foundation and year 1 students have been focussing on Kandinsky’s concentric circles as inspiration and the year 2s have been creating their own Kandinsky landscape collages. Kandinsky believed in expression through colour and breaking images down into simple shapes. The children had a wonderful time exploring this inspiration for their collages.

The older levels are focusing on Van Gogh and creating their own collage inspired by his work and style.

Following this we will be venturing into some sculpture, and I can assure everyone that the children are very excited about this!

Puppy Dog Percy Update

Miss H has returned from taking Percy to Sydney for his special radiation treatment. He had a big adventure as he has never been so far in the car before, used an elevator or been to a hotel. He managed very well with all the treatments, new doctors and new things and was, as always, the BEST BOY!

Travel is exhausting.
