Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3
Week 2 - Term 3
It was a fast and furious start to the term for the Junior School. Only one day back and then straight into the House Athletics Carnival. With the sun finally shining through and some unseasonally warm weather, the performances and behavior of the boys came to the fore. They ran, threw, jumped, pulled and played their way through the day. There were many fine performances, with two records broken. Congratulations to Malietau Davis on setting two new records in the 11yrs Year 5 Discus and Shot Put. At the end of the day, it was Berg that came out on top. Congratulations to all the boys for their excellent performances throughout the carnival. Special thanks to all the Junior School for their tireless efforts on the day, running events, timing, judging and recording. Thanks also to all the parents/carers that came out to support on the day.

The boys in the Junior School are always active and seem to always be involved in some kind of activity, either inside or outside the College. Recently Jonathan Udit of 6 Blue has been given an amazing opportunity to play rugby and partake in the Heroes Cup in Japan. He was selected in the U12s Rugby Team with the Australian Raptors Rugby Academy. They will travel in late September this year. We wish him all the best and look forward to hearing of his experience.
Over the past few years, the Junior School have entered teams into the IPSHA Rugby 7s competition. Each week the boys involved travel out to Koola Park in East Killara and play two games of 7s Rugby. The competition is strong and with many of the strong rugby schools (St Patrick’s College included) sending teams to the competition. The competition has suffered from a stigma that it is not a strong arena to develop rugby skills or a viable form of play. You only need to look at this week’s performances in the Olympics to know this is not true. The Australian’s Men’s team finished fourth and the Women’s team has started their competition strongly with convincing wins. With 7s being the only Rugby that has an Olympic pathway, it’s time to give this form of rugby the respect it has earned and deserves. We wish all our boys in the Rugby 7s all the best for their final two rounds of the season.
With only two rounds of the Winter season remaining, it is important that all boys finish the season well. Making sure that attendances are kept high for all trainings and games. Please make sure that you check the SPC app for updates on fixtures and if the weather is unpleasant, please look for a notification. If there is no notification for your son’s team, then it is presumed that games are on, and boys are to attend. We play over a wide area of Sydney and rain in one suburb, doesn’t necessarily mean rain in another. Let’s put our best foot forward for the final two rounds and no matter the results, keep our heads held high and finish the season with strong performances that you can be proud of.
