Principal Team Message
Nicola Smith & Emily Harvey
Hello BRPS Community,
Thank you all for such a warm welcome to the Black Rock community. I am in awe of how friendly and kind students and families have been and look forward to meeting more of you at our weekly assemblies and out in the yard!
-Ms Smith
We are excited to continue our journey of improvement over the course of the term, focussing specifically on the development of teacher practice in writing, and imbedding our school values. This week Emily and Nicola met with Rachel, our Senior Education Improvement Leader, to talk through the important work Black Rock staff have been doing in these areas to progress towards the targets set in the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP). Rachel joined us in celebrating the work that has been done to date and we look forward to supporting the school in the next steps.
We are all looking forward to our special Olympics Day being held this Friday. We are looking forward to seeing the students (& staff) dressed in their countries colours and it will be a great day for all involved to display our school values of kindness, aspiration, respect and integrity.
Thank you to Rowan Doyle for organising the day and we look forward to sharing highlights from the day in our next newsletter.
BRPS Connection to the 2024 Games
We are sure the BRPS Community will be cheering Claudia Hollingsworth, BRPS alumni when she competes in the 800 meters track event. We are sure Claudia has fond memories of running around the BRPS school oval (informally at that time referred to as the "dust bowl"). We wish Claudia every success in her endeavors to represent Australia.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. It tests the essential skills of reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. These assessments provide valuable insights into your child’s progress and help us tailor our teaching to better support their learning needs. The testing period for NAPLAN in 2024 took place from May 14th to May 24th.
We are delighted to share that we have received the NAPLAN results, and are extremely pleased with the outcomes. Our students have demonstrated significant progress across all tested areas, reflecting their hard work and dedication. Individual results were provided to families last week, allowing you to see your child's achievements. Additionally, a more detailed report on the school's overall performance will be shared with School Council and sent to families via Compass.
We are looking forward to celebrating our Foundation students 100th day of school tomorrow! We will be kicking off our celebrations with an assembly that we encourage our Foundation families to come and join in the celebrations. The Foundation students will look forward to performing for their audience including all our students from Year One to Year Six. A huge thanks to our Foundation teaching team that have put a great deal of effort into ensuring from the minute the students walk in as kinder kids on their transition day to celebrating their 100th day of school, that each and every child is made to feel welcome and a part of the BRPS community, celebrated for who they are and are given opportunities to learn and grow both academically and support their wellbeing.
Tomorrow night at 7:00 pm we will be holding our Community Events and Engagement meeting in the staffroom.
A reminder that tickets are on sale for one of our biggest fundraising events of the school year! Our Parent/Staff night being held on Saturday September 14th at the Black Rock Yacht Club. Thank you to all the parents that have purchased their tickets so far. We look forward to a night of putting the fun into fundraising! You can use the QR code below to purchase tickets.
It has been a successful start to opening our new bathrooms and drink taps. Students have made a wonderful start to ensuring our bathroom agreement has been maintained to a high standard. This week our Year Three and Four students have had the privilege of using the facilities at recess and lunch. Next week our Year Five and Six students will have access, followed by our Foundation, Year One and Year Two students. We are hoping if all students groups can show that they can use the bathrooms and show care and respect that they will be open to all students at recess and lunch in around three weeks time.
A shout out to our Year Six Play Leaders that have done a wonderful job of creating our BRPS Bathroom agreement and supporting the smooth opening of our fantastic new facilities!
Parent/Carer/Guardian Survey
If parents/carers could please take the time to complete the opinion survey it would be most appreciated. We would love to increase the percentage of families that complete the survey.
Photography/Filming Insight Survey via Compass
Thank you to all families that have completed the survey via Compass around photography and filming. For those families that have not completed this as yet we would really appreciate you completing this to support the teachers, especially when sharing their fortnightly updates to showcase the exciting learning that is taking place inside and outside the classroom. Remember: It needs to be completed for each child in your family.
2025 Foundation enrolments are still open. If you are aware of any families that are seeking a school for next year please direct them to our website for information about these events and the enrolment process.
SIBLING ENROLMENTS
Sibling enrolments are now open, please contact the office for enrolment forms.
Enrolments were due by Friday 26th July
If you are intending on leaving our school community in 2024 or 2025 due to relocation or any other reason could please advise us as soon as possible via the front office. For future planning purposes, we will be submitting an enrolment projection for 2025 to the Department of Education and Training this week, so such advice would be really helpful!
We hope you have a wonderful month ahead!
