OASIS News.....

Wow, our garden is starting to take off now with the beautiful spring weather and lots of hard work from our Foundation – Year 3 students. Thanks very much to those who offered to take care of the garden over the holidays – much appreciated! It’s been great to also have some of our families working with us in the garden too, thank you! Please feel free to check out the garden - your child will be able to tell you what their class has been working on and what vegetables they’ve planted.
Grade 2
Grade 2 classes recently harvested some broad beans and made a delicious dip. It was a valuable exercise in appreciating our food as there were many steps involved – harvesting, shelling, cooking etc. It was very pleasing to see almost everyone try this new food. We also harvested the carrots and daikon.
Thanks to the children who have begun collecting and bringing in items for the art projects. We will begin this in Week 6 so plenty of time to collect some more bits and pieces and save some items going to landfill!
Foundation
Foundation students have also been busy in the garden working with some adult helpers. They have been making a rock snake, weeding, watering, planting seeds, and making rocks to deter birds from eating our precious fruits. Thanks to the families who have volunteered to help – we are grateful for your time and energy.
Some of the carrots and daikon were ready recently which tied in nicely with our learning around plant features. The children searched for a carrot that was ready and then harvested, washed, prepared it and then had a try!
Donations
- We would love donations of seedlings, cuttings or plants, including vegetables, fruit, herbs, succulents and flowers.
- We are also looking for bales of hay or straw that we can use in our chicken coop and throughout the garden. If any families have access to some and would be happy to donate, we would really appreciate it. Please email acurnow@sfstrathfieldsaye.catholic.edu.au
- Useful box – anything SMALL that may be potentially going into to landfill that we could reuse. Think –
- small plastic toys (broken or just unloved), Toy wheels, Lego pieces, Maccas toys!
- Puzzle pieces, dominoes, dice
- Beads
- Old CDs/DVDs
- Canvas artworks (they don’t need to be blank)
- Photo frames – glass removed please.
Donations can be left in OASIS or Science room donations box. Thanks!
Reminder – students can wear their sports uniform when they have OASIS.
