Year 6
This term students have begun learning about electricity. Our first lesson was a challenging one! Turning on a light bulb isn’t as easy as you think!
Students learnt very quickly that if the circuit isn’t complete, the battery isn’t put in correctly or the bulb has blown, the bulb won’t light up.
Year 2
Year 2 continued exploring sound and how it is produced by vibrations. Students observed rice moving on a drum to see vibrations in action and investigated how the strength of vibrations can affect the loudness of a sound. To finish the lesson, they created their own mini drums, keeping the beat to We Will Rock You.
Year 4
This week, Year 4 explored the properties of materials, focusing on ductility, rigidity and absorbency. Students tested a variety of materials to investigate their absorbency before examining electrical cables and learning why copper is used for wiring. They then put their understanding of ductility into practice by using playdough to create long thin wires.
Donations
We are after lemon donations from your backyard tree. The grade 5s will be making lemonade and the grade 6s will be making a lemon battery in their upcoming science lessons. We accept any size! Big lemons and little lemons make for a great discussion with comparisons about juice, acid and bitterness.
