F-2 Mini Athletics Morning

On Friday 30th October the students in F-2 will be having a ‘Mini Athletics Morning’ held on the school oval. We will focus on participation and encouraging students to do their very best while enjoying the morning.

The students will participate in a variety of events starting from 9.15am and finishing just before 11.00am. The students will compete in modified running events, hurdles, long jump, shot put and discus.

Please note, there is no ‘winner’ awarded as such, as mentioned above, the focus is purely around participation and enjoying the activities.

We encourage the students to wear their house colours on the day (Clare- yellow, Francis- green, Backhaus- blue and Mackillop- red), this can include ribbons, face paint, coloured t-shirts etc. The students will participate in their year level.

It would be great to see as many parents and supporters there as possible cheering and encouraging the efforts of all students.

We will also have a coffee van for you to enjoy!

Thank you for your support,

Danielle Coates & Luke Freeman

Regional Athletics

On Monday 12th October, 32 students competed at the Regional Athletics Championships. I would like to congratulate the students on the commitment they have shown in preparing for these meets.

This year brought a truly remarkable result, with all 32 students qualifying for the State Championships. To have every athlete progress from the regional level is an incredible achievement and one that reflects not just the talent of our students, but, more importantly, the effort, preparation and dedication most students have shown throughout the athletics pathway.

The best thing about athletics is that it forms the foundation of all land-based sports. Becoming a more efficient runner, jumper or thrower can only benefit other sporting interests and pursuits.

Our students continue to impress us with their kindness, sportsmanship, and school spirit. We loved seeing the genuine joy they experienced when watching their teammates succeed. While athletics is predominantly an individual sport, the camaraderie on display throughout the day was something special. Learning to celebrate the success of others and understanding that someone else's achievement never diminishes your own is an important life lesson, and one our students demonstrated beautifully.

We are also incredibly proud of the training standards we have established and the expectations we have set around commitment, preparation and, importantly, turning up for your teammates. Our relay teams, in particular, have provided a wonderful opportunity for students to understand that while athletics is largely an individual pursuit, our actions still impact those around us. Relays have helped bring this to life, showing students that what they do, or don't do, can directly affect their teammates. Being reliable, putting in the work and being ready when your team needs you are just as important as individual performance. These are lessons that extend well beyond the athletics track, and it has been wonderful to see our students developing this understanding.

There was also an extra special moment on the day, with Josh Rodda qualifying for the State Championships in his third individual sport for the year: swimming, cross country and track & field, for the second year in a row! This is a rare achievement and a true testament to his commitment, dedication and love of sport. Congratulations, Josh!

We must also acknowledge the outstanding performances that resulted in records being broken on the day. Congratulations to Josh for breaking the 800m and 1500m records, Chimdi for breaking the 100m record, Gus for breaking the 1500m record, and our 9/10 Boys and Girls Relay Teams for setting new relay records. An honourable mention must also go to our 11 Girls and 12/13 Girls Relay Teams, who finished only hundredths of a second outside the existing records. What an incredible achievement!

A special thank you to Mr Freeman for his assistance in preparing our throwers for these meets, and to Mrs Zealley, Mrs Johns and Mr Crameri for attending and supporting our students on the day.

We now look forward to the State Championships next week. We wish all 32 students the very best and know they will represent St Francis with determination, humility and school pride. No matter the result, they have already achieved something truly remarkable, and we couldn't be prouder of the way they continue to represent our school.

Regional Athletics Carnival - Captains Write up....

On the 14th of October was the Regional Athletics Carnival. It was an amazing day with everyone who competed making it through to the State Level on Thursday the 29th of October!! Every student competed with great sportsmanship and showcased their skills amazingly. We are extremely proud of everyone who competed.

We started the day off with the 800m runners running their hearts out. Then the sprinters and hurdlers. Also, some jumpers and throwers spread out between those events. Then at about 12:30pm the relay started with all 6 relay teams winning and making it to states.

At the end of the day, we had the 1500m runners running 4 long laps around the track at top pace.

All our students put hard work and effort into their events and training leading up to regionals. I would just like to thank Mrs Coates for all the hard work, effort and time for helping us train and perfect our skills. Also a big thanks to Mrs Zealley for all the behind the scenes work and organization towards the competition.

By Bella, Leticia, Nathan, Jenson - Athletic Captains.
