Trails of Discovery

STEM - Invent and Create, The Art Box and Tech Savvy
Our annual Art and Technology Show showcased work from students in STEM – Invent and Create, The Art Box, and Tech Savvy. Rather than receiving feedback from just peers and teachers in class, students had the opportunity to receive feedback through authentic audience engagement from the wider community. Here is a snapshot of the showcase held on November 14th..
Top of your game AFL Program - A Term of Growth, Challenge and Opportunity
This term, our Trails of Discovery – Top of Your Game AFL Program has continued to provide Warrandyte High School students with rich, hands-on learning that builds football skills, teamwork, leadership, and confidence both on and off the field. Through a combination of classroom learning and authentic sporting experiences, students were empowered to challenge themselves, support one another, and explore the wider world of Australian sport.
Touring the Mighty MCG
A major highlight of the program was a bespoke tour of one of the world’s most iconic stadiums — the mighty MCG. Students explored almost every corner of this legendary venue, from the million-dollar turf to the exclusive corporate boxes, media centre and the historic Long Room. Many students took great delight in finding AFL player lockers (even those belonging to rival clubs!) and imagining themselves running out onto the famous ground in years to come.
The tour also included interactive activities, where students tested their reaction time, challenged their footy knowledge, and deepened their understanding of Australia’s sporting history through the museum exhibits. Staff enjoyed the experience just as much, with Ms Bloom proudly recounting her place in the record 1970 crowd of 121,000 supporters, and Ms Smith eyeing off the setup for an upcoming AC/DC concert on the hallowed turf.
WheelTalk Wheelchair Rugby
Another standout opportunity this year was the WheelTalk incursion delivered by Wheelchair Rugby Victoria. Led by Ben, a former Defence Force member, the session offered powerful insights into resilience, inclusion, and the role of adaptive sport in supporting people with disabilities.
Students were introduced to the fast-paced world of wheelchair rugby, learned about the importance of accessibility in sport, and then put their teamwork and communication skills to the test in competitive games using specialised rugby wheelchairs. This experience gave students a deeper appreciation for the challenges and achievements of athletes with disabilities, while also prompting meaningful reflection on empathy, diversity, and perseverance.
Ben’s story and the hands-on nature of the session connected strongly with our program’s focus on growth, discovery, and understanding through sport, leaving a lasting impact on the group.
The Top of Your Game AFL Program continues to open doors for our students — inspiring them to learn, lead and step confidently into new challenges. We look forward to even more exciting opportunities next year!
