Magnificent Machines
The Year 5 students have been exploring explanation texts, learning how to clearly describe how things work and why they happen. To bring their Explanation writing to life, they combined creativity and critical thinking by designing their very own “Magnificent Machines”
Year 5s read ‘How Was That Built’ by Roma Agrawal (who is a real life structural engineer). She champions women in engineering and has worked on some majorly famous buildings. They identified key features such as technical language, sequencing words and cause-and-effect structures. They then applied these skills to write detailed explanations about their own imaginative inventions.
