Grade 3-6:

Term 4 – Week 2 Update
It has been a strong and enthusiastic start to Term 4, with students diving straight into their Reading, Writing and Maths units. There is a wonderful buzz of learning across all classrooms as we continue to build on the skills developed throughout the year.
Reading:
Grade 3/4A – The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
The Grade 3/4A class has begun reading The One and Only Ivan. Students are already enjoying getting to know Ivan’s character and exploring the themes of friendship, hope and courage. The novel has inspired thoughtful discussions and predictions about what might happen next.
Grade 4/5A – Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping by Craig Silvey
The Grade 4/5A class is diving into Runt and the Diabolical Dognapping. Students are hooked by the exciting storyline and love the Australian setting and humour. As they read, students are analysing characters, making inferences and responding to the text through a range of engaging reading tasks.
Grade 5/6A – The Last Bear by Hannah Gold
The Grade 5/6A class has started reading The Last Bear. This powerful and heartfelt story has sparked meaningful conversations about environmental issues and the bond between humans and animals. Students are making thoughtful connections to real world topics and deepening their comprehension skills.
Writing:
Across all classrooms this term, students are exploring Narrative Writing and Persuasive Writing. They are learning how to plan, structure and edit their pieces effectively, while using descriptive language, strong arguments and creative ideas to engage their readers.
Maths:
Both the Grade 3/4A and Grade 4/5A classes are learning all about Fractions. Students are working on identifying, comparing and representing fractions in different ways, and are beginning to apply this knowledge to problem solving.
The Grade 4/5A class have also been busy learning all about Equivalent Fractions, Improper Fractions, Adding & Subtracting Fractions, Converting Fractions to Decimals, and Converting Fractions to Percentages.
The Grade 5/6A are focusing on Data Representation. Students are learning to collect, interpret and display data using a variety of graphs and charts, building their skills to analyse information and draw conclusions.

Thursday 18th December: Last Day Term
Friday 19th December: Student Free Day (Staff Planning)
