Foundation News

Our Foundation students have returned rested and ready for their final term of the year. We are so proud of the independence they consistently demonstrate and look forward to seeing this continue to develop in readiness for 2026.

Following the impressive success of our Foundation writers in the Writers Festival last term, we are delving deeper into narrative writing this term. We are using the classic fairy tale, 'Jack and the Beanstalk' to support our learning.

Last week we focused on the beginning of this story, including identifying the characters and the setting. We had lots of fun reciting the beginning, adding actions, drawing and writing.

This week we are focusing on the middle of the 'Jack and the Beanstalk' story, including identifying the 'problem'. As students develop their knowledge of narratives, they will once again recite the story, add actions, draw and write.

Next week, we look forward to learning about narrative 'endings'. During our unit on narrative writing, many children have shared their experience with a familiar version of the 'Jack and the Beanstalk' story. Do you have a copy at home that you can read with your child? If not, you might be able to visit your local library and borrow a copy to enjoy together.

Happy reading!
