A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Student Led Conferences
Congratulations to all students who did an amazing job sharing their learning with their families last week during the Student Led Conferences. We have heard from many teachers and families who have shared their positive experiences from the day. There were even some parents who shed tears of pride! It was great to see students taking ownership of their learning and reflecting on their progress and achievements. A big thank you goes to our teachers for the effort they put into preparing students for the conferences.
Education Support Staff Professional Learning
Last week, while teachers and students were participating in Student Led Conferences, our Education Support Staff (ESS) team spent time at Concord School in Bundoora and Coburg Special Developmental School. They each worked in a different classroom, during which they observed the way the environment, routines and learning tasks are adjusted to support students with additional needs. After the school visits, Lilly and the ESS team worked together to collate their observations and identify the areas where we can continue to strengthen our practice. These insights will inform the direction of future professional learning for our ESS team.
Whole School PJ Day
Tomorrow is our Whole School PJ Day, which has been organised by our Year Six students. Everyone is invited to come dressed in their PJs, dressing gown or slippers and to make a gold coin donation to help fundraise for the Year Six disco. Student reps will visit each classroom in the morning to collect donations. We thank you in advance for supporting our Year Six students and their end of year celebrations.
Specialist Structure 2026
Thank you to all of the members of our community who responded to our survey on the Specialist structure for 2026. The survey is now closed. The leadership team here at school will use the information that we have gathered from the community, along with the information gathered from staff and student feedback to make a decision about which four specialist experiences we will be offering in 2026.
The leadership team is also in the process of determining the structure of classes for 2026, as well as the number of students in each class. Once we have locked in this structure we will share this information with the community here in the newsletter.
Students Leaving in 2026
To assist with the planning of the 2026 classes, we again ask any families who will not be returning to BNWPS next year to inform the school office.
SunSmart
A reminder that throughout the rest of the year we require all students to wear a SunSmart hat whenever they are outside; this includes during recess and lunch, during PE and other outdoor activities. SunSmart hats should either be a hat with a broad brim that goes all the way around the hat, or a legionnaires cap that has the brim at the front, and a flap at the back to protect the neck. Broad brimmed hats are available to purchase for $15 from the front office. If your child does not have a SunSmart hat, they will be asked by staff to remain in the shade, which may impact their play time and/or their learning time.
