On Friday evening, a group of students and staff had the privilege of attending The Light Inside, a powerful performance by Bangarra Dance Theatre at the Geelong Arts Centre. Known for their unique fusion of contemporary dance and rich storytelling drawn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, Bangarra delivered a moving and visually stunning performance that left a lasting impact on all who attended. We are incredibly grateful to the Geelong Arts Centre for their generous donation of free tickets, and to the WHC staff who volunteered their time, which made it possible for our school community to experience this significant cultural event. It was an unforgettable evening that deepened our appreciation for First Nations stories.

This term, the students in Year 10 have organised a formal for their year level, but for it to go ahead, we need YOUR help. At the colour run, bring money to purchase sausages, hamburgers and drinks if you're hoping to support our year 10 community event. Don’t you remember your Year 10 Formal or want to attend one in the future? Buy our food to give 2025s Year 10s an event they’ll never forget, your support will be much appreciated and thanked by the students.
Mikayla Brian on behalf of the year 10 formal committee

Please email our Year 11 student Michael Knight if you would like to purchase one:
Western Metro Region Athletics Carnival 2025
On Wednesday 8th October we had 14 students represent the school in the WMR Athletics Carnival at the Moonee Valley Athletics track. All students competing showed great courage and determination. We have students moving onto the State Athletics Championships on Monday 20th October. Well done to all students that competed.

Students at WHC are encouraged to ‘Call Out’ poor behaviours they may be exposed to, witness, or hear of in our community.
If you hear something that is not right, or feel uncomfortable in our community, we want to hear from you!
Students are encouraged to email their Year Level address, where concerns will be resolved.

Welcome back for Term 4 in the library!
This term we have introduced lots of new board games, card games and puzzles into our collection for students to enjoy at recess and lunch times. We now have Flip7, Bananagrams, 6 Nimmit, Exploding Kittens, Cover your Assists and more. Our puzzle table has also been a big hit in the library this year, students are more than welcome to help us complete the puzzles over recess and lunch times. We are close now to finishing our 6th puzzle and we are aiming to get another one done before the end of the term.

This month our display in the library is highlighting our horror, crime and mystery/suspense genres to get readers into the Spooktober mood. All books on the display can be borrowed!

Natalie Garcia is in Year 10 and in the SSP Football program. She is also passionate about space and is actively working toward her dream of becoming an astrophysicist.
When asked to explain how her dream started, Nat said:
“My passion for space is one of the first things people notice about me. It's a part of who I am. That passion truly ignited when I realized how naturally mathematics came to me. Numbers, patterns, and problem solving have always felt like second nature, and I’ve come to see math as the language of the universe. Years ago, I watched Hidden Figures for the first time, and it changed everything. Seeing Katherine Goble Johnson on screen confidently solving complex equations while surrounded by doubt and prejudice sparked something deep inside me. I remember one particular scene where she approached the chalkboard, filled with determination, and solved an equation that had stumped her colleagues. That moment solidified it: I didn’t just admire her, I wanted to be like her. Since then, I’ve been driven not only by my love for STEM, but also by a desire to break barriers, just like Katherine did.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to express my passion for space through opportunities that have given me a glimpse into the life of an astrophysicist. With the support and recommendations of my teachers, I applied for the Swinburne University Work Experience Program earlier this year. Soon after, I was also accepted into the CAS (Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing) program. On the very first day, I met an inspiring team of diverse individuals from different backgrounds and regions of Victoria. I felt truly honoured to connect with such like-minded people, each bringing unique perspectives to our shared interest in space. During my time at Swinburne, I had the chance to meet a variety of people working in different areas of the space field. Many had come from all over the world to study, and they welcomed my team and I with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. I loved every moment of it. One of the most memorable experiences was listening to a lecturer share his research on galaxies. His presentation left me both fascinated and humbled. It reminded me how vast the universe is and how many questions remain unanswered. That sense of mystery only deepened my passion for space exploration.
During my time at Swinburne, we explored various asteroids using telescope data. Most afternoons were dedicated to analysing the data and writing reports on the images we received. One of the highlights was a research project we completed in pairs. My partner and I focused on black holes, and after extensive research, we presented our findings to the rest of the team as well as two distinguished astrophysicists. I was honoured to be named the best presenter, receiving a special award from a highly respected astrophysicist. Beyond the academic experiences, I was also grateful for the chance to visit Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus. It was beautiful and inspiring, making the entire experience truly unforgettable".
