Aerobics Championships

Macey Mileto, Year 12, Ridgeway Campus

Over the last week of Term 3, Ivanhoe Grammar School's Aerobics team headed to Queensland to compete in the 2025 AeroSchools National Championships. Nationals is always a beautiful way to end of our season and celebrate our hard work with friendships blossoming and life long memories made amongst the competition. Our team ranged from Year 7s, who were brand new to the sport, to our Year 12 Captains who completed their final routine for the School. It was one of the largest teams our school has seen. Our girls worked so hard in the lead up to Nationals, showing up at 7am on Wednesdays all year and adding in additional morning and after school trainings in the final weeks before.

We collectively managed to place second overall at the end of the carnival which is an incredible end to our season after winning the State Championships earlier in the year.

With the overwhelmingly positive energy and strong bonds between our team, especially with our younger girls, the future of Aerobics looks very bright. We are very excited that Aerobics is becoming both a summer and winter sport for next year and hope to continue growing the sport for years to come.

Kayaking Championships

Riley Tyebji, Year 11, Ridgeway Campus

In September, a group of eager students represented Ivanhoe Grammar School at the Kayaking Slalom Victorian School Championship, which was held on a chilly Sunday morning at Westerfolds Park in Templestowe. I was joined by around 20 other students from Years 7-12; all hoping to get on the water and hone our craft in some of the most exhilarating events.

The competition included many events with the main event being K1 (Single Kayak), in which a single paddler navigates through 18 gates on a course down the river in a kayak, aiming to get the fastest time. Additionally, there was C1 (Single Canoe), in which the paddling is kneeling with one-blade paddle, C2 (Double Canoe), in which two paddlers work together to steer around the course in perfect harmony, and the Kayak Sprint, a speed event focused on reaching the end point as fast as possible. Each required a different combination of balance, coordination, and concentration.

It was a fun and challenging day, filled with much support and some friendly rivalry among students. We were filled with energy as we motivated each other, learned from our runs, and celebrated our improvement throughout the day. In the end our efforts paid off, Ivanhoe Grammar School was crowned the Large School Champion, an achievement that brought pride to everyone who took part. The experience was one that merged friendship, talent, and shared love for the water.
