Prep

In Term Four, our Prep students will continue to strengthen their movement skills through three exciting Physical Education units: Target Sports, Invasion Games, and Gymnastics.

In the Target Sports Unit, students will explore activities that involve aiming and sending objects towards a target. They will practise accuracy, control, and concentration through fun games that encourage persistence and problem-solving. Our Invasion Games Unit will introduce students to simple team-based activities that involve moving into space, dodging, and working together to score. These games will develop their spatial awareness, cooperation, and understanding of fair play. Finally, in Gymnastics, students will explore a range of balances, jumps, rolls, and movement sequences. They will develop strength, flexibility, and coordination while learning how to use different parts of their body in creative ways.

We look forward to seeing our Preps finish the year with confidence, teamwork, and lots of active fun!

Years 1 and 2

In Term Four, Year 1 and 2 students will take part in three engaging Physical Education units: Target Sports, Invasion Games, and Gymnastics.

In the Target Sports Unit, students will refine their throwing, rolling, and striking skills as they aim for accuracy and consistency. They will be encouraged to set personal goals and practise strategies to improve their performance. Our Invasion Games Unit will give students the chance to develop their teamwork, decision-making, and movement skills in small-sided games. They will learn how to move into space, defend, and cooperate with others to achieve team goals while continuing to build sportsmanship and fair play. In Gymnastics, students will expand their movement vocabulary by practising balances, rolls, jumps, and linking skills together into simple sequences. They will learn to move with control, creativity, and confidence while working both individually and with partners.

Term 4 promises to be an active and rewarding end to the year, with students building strength, skill, and teamwork across all units.

Years 3 and 4

This term, our Year 3 and 4 students will take on two exciting units that will challenge their skills and support their physical development. In the first half of the term, students will focus on soccer, where they will develop key skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. Through fun drills and small-sided games, they will improve their ball control, teamwork, and decision-making while building confidence in both individual play and group activities.

As we move into the second half of the term, students will shift to a tennis unit that will strengthen their hand-eye coordination, agility, and striking skills. They will practise serving, rallying, and controlling the ball, with an emphasis on accuracy and movement. Students will also explore basic match play, learning how to use positioning, communication, and strategy when playing with a partner.

Alongside these units, students will complete a variety of fitness tests to track their progress and build resilience. Activities such as the beep test, sprints, agility runs, and strength challenges will help them set personal goals and monitor their growth over time.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic term filled with skill development, teamwork, and plenty of fun as students take on new challenges in PE!

Years 5 and 6

This term, Year 5 and 6 students will take on two exciting units designed to challenge their skills, coordination, and teamwork. To kick off the term, the focus will be soccer, where students will sharpen their dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending skills. They will also explore small-sided games that highlight teamwork, spatial awareness, and game strategy, while pushing themselves to apply their skills in fast-paced situations.

Midway through the term, they will step onto the tennis court, where they will build accuracy, control, and agility. Students will practise key techniques such as serving, forehands, backhands, and volleys, while also learning how to rally and anticipate their opponent’s play. They will explore both singles and doubles strategies, developing communication, positioning, and tactical awareness in competitive match play.

Alongside these units, students will complete a series of fitness tests to measure and track their physical development. Activities such as the beep test, sprints, agility runs, and strength challenges will help them set personal goals, monitor progress, and build resilience.

With plenty of opportunities for competition, self-improvement, and collaboration, Term 4 promises to be a fantastic journey in PE. We look forward to seeing students challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and enjoy the many benefits of sport and physical activity!

How can you support your child’s Physical Education learning at home?

  • Obstacle Course Challenges: Create an indoor or outdoor obstacle course using household items like pillows, chairs, and cones. Time each other to see who can complete the course the fastest, encouraging agility, balance, and coordination.
  • Stretching and Flexibility: Start a daily stretching routine to help improve flexibility and mobility. Use YouTube videos or apps for simple stretching exercises, or follow along with guided yoga sessions to promote mindfulness and body awareness.
  • Balloon Volleyball or Balloon Tennis: Using a balloon instead of a ball, create a volleyball or tennis game indoors. This will help develop hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and teamwork while being safe in small spaces.
  • Soccer Skills: Practice dribbling balls around cones (or cups/water bottles) in tight spaces. Set up a small goal (laundry basket, cardboard box, or cones). Work on shooting with the laces (top of the foot) and the inside of the foot. Challenge kids to aim at different “targets” inside the goal. This will help develop their accuracy for kicking and shooting a goal.
  • Fitness Challenges: Set up a fitness challenge circuit at home, such as timed activities like jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, or running in place. Track progress over time and encourage friendly competition.
