Sports Corner
Welcome to the Ballarat High School Sports Corner where we celebrate results for school events, School Sport Victoria (SSV) events, BAS After School events and highlight significant achievements from present and past students.
Swimming Report
The school has had a very good swim season, with a clear win in the Eureka division and a return to the BAS carnival in Ballarat. Students travelled to Horsham and Melbourne to compete against the best regional and state swimmers and three students will represent the Ballarat BAS team in Melbourne. Our students are to be congratulated on their commitment, encouragement of each other and respect when representing our school.
SSV Greater Western Region – Horsham
On Friday 22nd March BHS students had an early start to Horsham for the Greater Western Region swimming carnival. Thirty swimmers represented the school on the day with many close races and near misses for students trying to qualifying for the State Championships. The group came away with many medals and BHS secured 4th place overall in the school’s division; a big improvement from the previous year. Four students qualified for the State Championships in Melbourne.
SSV State Championships- Melbourne
On Friday 19th April, four students travelled to Melbourne to compete against the state’s best swimmers. Claire Mathison qualified for five events, including a relay. Claire had just returned from the Age Group Championships at the Gold Coast, gaining valuable experience and motivation for future meets. Claire achieved a bronze medal which means she is third in the State for the 50m Backstroke. Leah Ross, Racheal Arnold, Isabelle Jarvis and Claire qualified for the 200m freestyle relay and swam well. Although they didn’t place, these girls have qualified every year and they have set goals to return next year.
