Specialist Sport
Welcome to the first edition of the Specialist Sport section of the Newsletter. It has been a very quick start to the year with most of the students and staff, not believing that Term 1 is almost finished!
We have been very busy in the background on the administration side of the program toward the end of 2023 and the start of 2024. There have been some great additions in community groups for our specialised training sessions both in the junior and senior programs.
This year we are working strategically on growing student numbers and exposure in the community, fostering great relationships to maximise student outcomes and pathways for athletes wishing to pursue excellence in their chosen sport. We are also finding new ways of exhibiting high performance facilities.
Please enjoy some of the accomplishments that our students have made so far in Term 1!
Year 10 VET Primary School Sports Days
Our Year 10 cohort of students have been busy in their theory studies for the beginning of their Cert III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation. The Certificate has changed this year making it more relevant to job opportunities.
It is paramount that students have access to the wider community to utilise potential skills they may use in the future. We have partnered with Miners Rest, Ballarat North and Alfredton Primary Schools for 2024 to make this a reality. BHS also benefits by being seen as the leader in volunteering in the community in a positive and impactful way. We had some great feedback from parents and staff from all schools and we hope to continue this in the future when more opportunities arise!
Junior Specialist Sport 2024
A large focus of work for 2024 has been our Year 7 and 8 Specialist Sport program.
Engaging students during these transition times helps the funnel of students moving into the senior year levels and provides our athletes with continued development in fitness, goals setting, mindset and nutrition awareness. In order to facilitate this, we have aligned ourselves in a new partnership with West Vic Academy of Sport. Shenea and the team are working with BHS Year 7-8 students in the key areas of engagement, nutrition and enjoyment. At this crucial time of development we have an opportunity to capture students enthusiasm and help them take the next step toward their goals. This also opens the door to possible new experiences through WVAS’s elite pathways program and access to elite level facilities.
We kick started with a Fitness excursion at Fed Uni and have plenty more planned for the remainder of 2024. Watch this space!
Term 2 and 3 Specialist Sport Training Programs
2024 is on the path of success with some of the best local service providers to bring out the best of our student athletes. We are offering some of the best and most professional services to our Year 9-11 Students in Terms 2 and 3 for their training sessions and we know BHS athletes will have the best opportunity to be successful.
Thanks to RAD, BBA, BNA and WVFA for all your support!
