Harmony Week

Harmony Week ran from the 18th to 24th of March.  The Library were proud to host a special Nigerian lunch organised by Sarah McKenzie and her students on Tuesday 19th March.

Our display “Where are our Families from” ended up covering 46 countries, including: Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Lebanon, Algeria, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Tanzania, South Sudan, Toga, Nigeria,  Qatar, Israel, Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Ukraine, Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, China, Chile, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia.

Students enjoyed looking at the world map to see where their classmates’ families or ancestors were from.  For other students it was reassuring to see that there were other students with connections to the countries they also had ties to.

Our school library showcased a great range of books reflecting the many cultures in Australia.

Interesting fact: Australians identify with around 300 ancestries.  Almost half of Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas.
