Australian Marine Oil Spills Centre

(AMOSC)

On Monday the 22nd of April, 25 students from Years 7 to 10 attended the Australian Marine Oil Spills Centre in Geelong as part of the Taylors Lakes Secondary College Student Excellence Program.

Students were selected based on their demonstration of environmental awareness and commitment to high ability learning. This was a very special invitation to our students at Taylors Lakes Secondary College as the Centre has made a learning link with our college which is a first of its kind. Tstudents enjoyed learning about the machinery and professionals that work to save our environment by capturing oil spills when they enter our ocean systems. This allowed our students to understand types of careers they can enter in the future and how we can proactively deal with pollution in marine environments.

Following this interactive experience, students travelled to the Geelong foreshore to identify how this form of environmental protection is essential to protect the ecological diversity of Australia’s unique marine ecosystems.

Accompanying the students was Louisa Norwood, Assistant Principal and Sean Foy, Science Learning Area Leader. The experience was also excellent professional learning for our staff.
