The end of the term is here.  The first nine weeks of the year have certainly gone at a rapid rate and students and staff are looking forward to a well earned break.

Student Dinner

Last night was the Annual Student Dinner at the College. The Rock’n’Roll theme was a hit and the students who were present appeared to really enjoy themselves. The music, themed food, games and dancing was fantastic. The DJ even negotiated and convinced staff to go on for another half and hour as the students were having such a great time and enjoying the evening.

Thank you to all staff who were involved in the planning, preparation, set up, supervision and assistance on the night. There were 21 staff who volunteered and gave their time on the evening to provide this great opportunity for the students. I would like to thank and acknowledge the effort of Mrs Teresa Hickman as the main organiser and the other admin staff who assisted her. This event would not have happened without her leadership and commitment - Thank you Teresa.

It was disappointing to see and have only 94 students, 17 of whom were Day students in attendance for the evening. Thank you to all the students who did attend for making this a great evening and a good way to end the term.

Principal Position

As staff, students, parents and the College community are aware I was asked and I accepted the Principal Role for Term 1 and 2 2024, following Steve Watt being seconded to the role of Director of Agricultural Education. For a variety of personal reasons, I have made the decision and chosen not to continue in the role of Principal at the College and will be stepping down from the position at the end of Term 1 2024. I have learnt valuable life lessons from my time and experiences in leading the College over the last six months. One of those is to listen to your body and understand when your own health and wellbeing is a priority.

I will be remaining at the College and taking on a varied role within the College for Term 2. Paul Dyson will remain in the role of Vice Principal, as too Patrick Swallow will continue in the position of HOD Farm Training for Term 2.

The South West Regional District Office has undertaken processes to appoint a Principal to the College for the start of Term 2. I can inform the College community that Mr Adam Blackmore has been appointed to the Principal position at the College.

I met with Adam at the College on Wednesday afternoon. Adam is currently a substantive Senior School Deputy Principal at Australind SHS and has come with vast experience and knowledge in Senior School pathways and VET programs and experience in RTO School management. Prior to Australind SHS Adam was at Collie SHS.

On behalf of the College community, I welcome Adam as he becomes part of Harvey Ag.

I sincerely thank all of the College community for their support over the last six months as I have undertaken the Principal’s role.

Enjoy the Easter and school holiday break with family and friends. Travel safe, take care and look after each other. I look forward to seeing everyone return next term.
