COLLEGE

UPDATE

Term 1: Week 8

WELCOME TO WEEK 8

LAST WEEK

2024 PREFECTS & MENTORS

Last week we recognised and officially commissioned our Year 10 Prefects and Year 11 Mentors into their Leadership roles for 2024. We look forward to seeing them grow into young leaders and work with our younger students in the College.

SHEP ENSEMBLE

Last weekend we hosted the SHEP Ensemble Program in our Hugh O’Brien Center. It was wonderful to welcome students from across many schools in the area for this opportunity. We look forward to sharing some photos with you shortly from this weekend.

THIS WEEK

NAPLAN

This week in Years 7 and 9 we have the commencement of NAPLAN. We wish these two-year levels the best of luck for this Australia-wide testing process.

ASSESSMENTS:

All classes are currently working on assessment. Please take time to access the assessment calendars to ensure your child is meeting the deadlines.

NEXT WEEK

HARMONY WEEK

Next week we are excited to kick off Harmony Week in the College. Please keep an eye on our socials for upcoming events your child can be involved in during this week.

REMINDERS:

ONLINE BULLYING:

The eSafety Commissioner is a resource recommended for parents/carers to report any online harassment and bullying. We encourage families to communicate with the school and also access this link should their child experience online bullying or harassment : https://www.esafety.gov.au/report/forms

COLLEGE DIARY

A reminder that the College diary is an excellent organisational tool for families and an essential communication device between home and school. Please record any notes or concerns you may have in your child’s diary to communicate with staff.

E-SCOOTER MISUSE

We are still witnessing students misusing e-scooters in and around the College. Whilst they are a great option for getting to school on time, we have had a number of near misses with cars. We also have concerns that some of our students may be in breach of Queensland Transport Law.

If you have not discussed these laws with your child, please click the following link and discuss, as a family, what it means for students on e-scooters: https://bit.ly/QLDGovernmentScooterRules

NO E-SCOOTERS ARE TO ENTER THE COLLEGE VIA SUNBIRD DRIVE

Our main area of concern is our Sunbird Drive entrance (Trade Training Centre carpark), due to the tight footpath and heavy traffic. Therefore in order to mitigate risk to students safety from next week students will not be permitted to enter with e-scooters from the Sunbird Drive.

The video below aptly named 'RULES FOR RIDERS', developed by the Queensland Government, is a fantastic resource that we encourage all families watch together: https://bit.ly/QLDGovtScooterRulesVideo
